I'm an Edwards supporter and I say: BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT
I have made a commitment to support the nominee no matter who it is, and I stand by that pledge.

But that nominee should be Barack Obama. I've said some critical things about both him and Hillary Clinton in this primary season, but my criticisms of Obama were only concerned with his campaign tactics and electability, not him personally or his stances on the issues. On the contrary, I like him personally and his stances on the issues. As he has won two contests this year, those concerns about his electability have waned for me, and if he can take down the mighty Clinton machine, then he will have earned my respect as an electable candidate.

He inspires people, AND he's right on the issues. We need that in this country. His stance on the Iraq War is "clean", having opposed it BEFORE he opposed it. That will allow us to have a clear cut debate this fall about Iraq, without semantics or having to explain old votes from 2002.

Republicans are divided and demoralized, especially if they end up with John McCain as their nominee. But if we nominate Hillary Clinton, they will stampede the polling places, not to vote for him, but to stop her. Obama will be able to unambiguously position himself as the fresh candidate of change. America wants that, and so do I.

1. I agree. Edwards was my first choice, but Obama will be a strong candidate --
MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better than Hillary, who will inspire the other side like no one and nothing else.

12. Well, I'm a realist, I guess. I know it will be one or the other, and
the thought of Hillary as our nominee just makes me curl my toes.

14. looks like a good place to post this...
firstly, to all john edwards supporters, i'd just like to extend my sympathies. we are all too familiar with the sense of devastation one feels after dedicating so much time and energy to a cause, only to lose in the end. my grandmother still talks wistfully of adlai stevenson and i'm sure we all remember 2004. it's a loss that sticks for some time.

unfortunately, i fear i will too, soon be among the mourning once again. i'm an obama supporter, and i'll be blunt, john edwards exit from the race in my estimation, does not bode well for obama's chances. but i'm not giving up hope. why? because i believe that those of you who were inspired by john edwards message, can be empowered by obama's. he shares your outrage at the conduct of current washington politics and he shares your desire for drastic change.

please just watch either of the following videos. his words speak for themselves:

(barack in 2002, on the iraq war vote)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=EhpKmQCCwB8
http://youtube.com/watch?v=sXzmXy226po

by the way, if anyone here is affected by these two clips, please post them elsewhere (the video forum, etc). this is my first post, and i don't have thread posting priviledges.

also, just a general message to all, as i am a newly registered user, i have the benefit of a recent viewing of the du terms of service. here's a refresher:

3. Civility: Treat other members with respect. Do not post personal attacks against other members of this discussion forum.
4. Content: Do not post messages that are inflammatory, extreme, divisive, incoherent, or otherwise inappropriate. Do not engage in anti-social, disruptive, or trolling behavior. Do not post broad-brush, bigoted statements.

seems some of you may have forgotten ;)

Thank you for posting that. I'm still weighting my options, but the fact Obama opposed the war from the start is very appealing factor.

Sorry, but I've read all his policy papers and he's a corporate puppet. I'm not wasting any time on him and expect zero change if he happens to win the WH. My guess is the corporate leaders and their news media arm will take him out with swiftboating if he makes it past the primary unless he promises to let them control his administration.

Straw candidate, no conscience, will do or say ANYTHING to get elected based on past experience.

21. His stance on the Iraq war is far from clean.
He opposed it before he supported it. Read his plan for Iraq. It's remarkably similar to the Bush plan.

His health care proposal is obscene. It will leave 15 million poor people without coverage, and at the same time it will invalidate the state-by-state indigent care programs. Millions of poor people will be significantly worse off than they are now.

He is not right on the issues.

32. Back to Obama...
... and dizzied by the year. It was around this time last year I was commenting on how clever and thoughtful his logo was/is, contrasting it with the "staid" and boring logo of another candidate.

Could've slept the whole year.

33. Check Obama's site for a positive message thanking John and Elizabeth
www.barackobama.com

It was a really good message that said good things without asking for votes from their supporters. Any chance of Edwards for VP again?

I'm leaning towards Obama and plan to go see him on Saturday.

I'm voting in the primary for Hillary because at least she doesn't laud Reagan and attack activists.

And Hillary is the candidate of "groups". Barack Obama is the candidate of America.
