20. CNN said that he did call them BOTH personally yesterday
He asked them both to make poverty in America more central to their campaigns (and Administration if they get elected) Supposedly they both agreed.

17. I was listening to CNN and they did mention both calls. I'm not surprised tho if MSNBC didn't..
they've been talking about HRC like she's the nominee all day today so its not surprising they want to frame this in the way they want it to be seen. Thanks for clarifying..didn't mean to imply you were leaving something out and sorry if I did ! :hi:

I don't get it, MSNBC has been eviscerating Hillary ever since SC.

5. Well the Clintons and Edwards are VERY close. It was Bill who
lobbied Kerry to put Edwards on the ticket. The question is how close are they? Hmmmm....

9. It's all very interesting...
...because while the candidates were in Iowa---I got the distinct impression
that there was a great deal of reciprocity between Obama and Edwards. There
always was between the volunteer camps.

At my precinct caucus, the Edwards precinct captain approached me and wanted
to strategize with me.

I know this is not true for all Edwards supporters. Many support Hillary. However,
every conversation I had with an Edwards supporter was about their desire for
real change and they communicated to me that they were adamantaly against Hillary.
My experience is anecdotal, but I saw this opinion repeated over and over by
Edwards supporters.

At our caucus, the Edwards and Obama camps sent some of our supporters over to the
Biden camp to help him become viable.

I find all of the information about where the alliances lie--really puzzling.

Edward and Clinton did meet after the debate. Who knows what that meant. Both camps
understand very well that Edwards has a lot of power. His endorsement could be the
critical nudge that puts one campaign over the edge.

It will be interesting, no doubt.

16. The meeting after the debate was FOR SHOW. My gut tells me that
they had a deal long before the meeting.

26. I wondered about that too...
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 11:12 AM by TwoSparkles
Why wouldn't they just talk on the phone?

They met in person for a reason. They knew that the media would report on it.

This to me, signals a deal or that Edwards is more in Hillary's camp than in Obama's.

I would find that really shocking.

Everything I've seen and believed--up to this point--has led me to believe that Obama
and Edwards have always been more closely aligned. That's just my opinion, and it's
based on nothing more than what I assumed, and what I witnessed while I was here in Iowa
and in the debates.

I thought that Edwards clearly seemed to be more in line with Obama early on. Not so much
in the last debate, but at that point--Edwards was fighting for his life in SC. I did
not begrudge him for pointing out their differences. I would say that Edwards' attitude
toward Obama and Hillary seemed to shift from pro-Obama (to the point that Edwards was
helping Obama) to going after Obama more. Who knows...it could mean something, it could
mean nothing.

That meeting between Edwards and Clinton---which they knew would be discussed--is really
interesting.

I know that the Obama and Edwards camps communicated a great deal about strategy in the
Iowa caucuses though, and I know this came from the top down. However, if the campaigns
were very close during Iowa--that could have changed by now.

This is kind of nerve wracking...

22. I was reading DU since
summer '03, joined in either Nov or Dec.

I never saw a credible story to support your claim. I think the truth is that there were a lot of Democrats telling Kerry to go with Edwards, and I do not think we know what the Clintons had to say on the matter.

24. I think Clinton lobbied to put Edwards on because they wanted BOTH of them
neutralized for 2008 so Hillary wouldn't HAVE to be on a debate stage with either of them.

I don't think Bill was helping Dems and Kerry-Edwards ticket when he gave such public defense of Bush for his decisions during Bill's HIGH PROFILE summer 2004 book tour, do you?

I also don't think Carville was working FOR Kerry-Edwards here, do you?

8. why would Edwards endorse?
if he has any desire to serve in a Democratic administration in 2009, why wouldn't he lay low and support the eventual nominee?

13. Just my opinion...
...but I think Edwards will decide who the next President is.

Obama and Hillary are running a very tight race. Hillary is
leading in my Super Tuesday polls, but those polls always
tighten into a very close race--when the heavy campaigning
begins.

Edwards knows that whomever he endorses will experience a
windfall of delegates and supporters, who will probably be enough
to break those close races for either Obama and Hillary.

Whoever Edwards endorses, will most likely win the nomination.

If he endorses someone, he will make a strong case for that person,
and it will be powerful.
