Michigan primary "corpse" being picked on by vultures???
We were made impotent by our political leaders in MI when they jumped the gun and ignored the DNC. We could have waited with the rest of the states till Super Tuesday, which would have been okay from what I understand. We were told that the Jan. 15 date would result in our delegates not being seated at the convention. Our favorite candidates took their names of the ballot. Not, Hillary, of course.....

Anyhow, over in "Breaking News" in DU, it says that Hillary wants our MI delegates seated.....no wonder, there are no delegates for Obama and Edwards. She'd make out like a bandit.

I sure hope Howard Dean keeps his word and does not admit our delegates. Crooked politics....

now that it is in her best political interest to do so.
You should be honored.

8. How can you position this as a noble act?
The names of most of the candidates weren't even on the Michigan ballot!

It's one thing to lobby ways in which the Michigan voters can have
real elections. If Dean or someone else--in tandem with Hillary--
wants Michigan to have elections--then maybe they could work together
on something.

However, one candidate asserting that a fair election took place, when
all of the candidates were told not to campaign there--and that the
delegates would not count--is clearly dirty tricks.

I'm all for Michigan voters having their election. I feel terrible
for the people of Michigan. This must be so disheartening. However
the party leadership decided that those delegates would not count.

If they want to make those delegates count, then there needs to
be a fair election, in order to determine how those delegates
will be divided.

So far, most of the voters operated under the assumption that their
vote would not count. Many stayed home.

Assigning delegates under these circumstances---is what would REALLY
be unfair to the Michigan voters.

Clinton pledges to seat Mich. delegates despite primary flap
January 25, 2008

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton said Friday that she wants the Michigan and Florida delegations seated at the Democratic National Convention.

The New York senator will ask delegates pledged to her to support seating the two delegations when the Democrats meet in Denver in August.

“I believe our nominee will need the enthusiastic support of Democrats in these states to win the general election, and so I will ask my Democratic convention delegates to support seating the delegations from Florida and Michigan,” she said in a statement released Friday. “I know not all of my delegates will do so and I fully respect that decision. But I hope to be president of all 50 states and U.S. territories, and that we have all 50 states represented and counted at the Democratic convention.”

Michigan and Florida wanted to have more of an impact on the selecting the political parties’ nominee for president so both states moved their primary dates up — Michigan to Jan. 15 and Florida to Jan. 29. As a result, the Democratic National Committee punished the states by ruling that no delegates from the states would be seated at the national convention. The candidates also pledged not to campaign in either state and none have, with the exception of U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who was to formally announce today his withdrawal from the race.

The Republican National Committee also sanctioned the states by ruling that only half the states’ delegates would be seated at their convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul in September.

Political activists have long said that the eventual nominee would end up seating the states’ delegations, and the Republican candidates have indicated they will do that.

5. 40 percent of Michgan's vote supported
uncommitted. Hillary did not campaign in Michigan. Obama, Edwards could have followed suit. Those uncommitted non delegates would likely vote for Edwards or Obama.

7. Hillary won by a 2 to 1 margin against "uncommitted"
Approximately 10% of Democrats crossed over to vote for Romney to screw McCain.

10. She had 55% to Uncommitted's 40%. Not to mention how different things would be if...
Edwards and Obama people actually showed up in full force.

14. THe only people who knew what was going on...
were people with computers, contact with the party, etc.

Anybody without cable news channels or computers would have not any idea about the DLC and the DNC and the squabbling going on. They assumed wrongfully so that Hillary was the most favored candidate of the Dem. party and that's why they voted for her.

Poor Michigan. We were stepped on and flattened. I wonder if Canada would accept us.

16. Exact reason we supported Sen Levin,
Gov. Granholm and Debbie Dingell is saying no to New Hampshire's primacy in eliminating Michigan's choices before we ever get to vote.

15. Is not what the New York times says.
Hillary 55.3, Uncommitted, 40%.

Democrats
Candidate Vote % Delegates
Hillary Rodham Clinton 328,151 55.3% Delegates stripped by party.
Uncommitted 237,762 40.0
Dennis J. Kucinich 21,708 3.7
Christopher J. Dodd 3,853 0.6
Mike Gravel 2,363 0.4

100% reporting
The Democratic National Committee plans to penalize Michigan Democrats for holding an early primary by stripping the state party of all its delegates to the national convention. If the penalty is lifted, the state party will have 128 pledged and 28 unpledged delegates.

We have been very disappointed in many of Hillary's votes. Still, All this ankle biting on both sides is unnecessary. Bill's positives have been beneficial to the party. Destroying Bill only hurts us all.

"Dem Natl Committee plans to penalize Michigan Democrats"- The word "penalize" is not the right word. "Uphold its rules" might be a more suitable expression.

It's okay to destroy Michigan but leave Bill alone? "Destroying Bill only hurts us all" Buddy, we've been hurt already and I don't see any sympathy for us in your post.

Howard, keep upholding the rules - make no exceptions.

with Michigan Democrats come September. I am so sick of a primary system that so stacks the deck, I don't care if Michigan goes or not. Don't think you are stepping on the toes of all Michigan Democrats.
