64. America has made a big mistake, I fear....
Don't get me wrong... I'll vote for Kerry and hope he defeats Bush.

...but I think Karl Rove is smiling as much tonight as the Kerry supporters are. Kerry gives Rove an inviting target... and it is going to take all of our efforts to beat down $200 million worth of attacks. There is no margin of error... Kerry must win EVERY state Gore won, and then find a way to get Ohio, WV, and NH. He can't afford to drop ANYTHING that Gore won. But I'm not confident. I give Bush about a 70-30 chance of getting a second term now.

Lesser of Two Evils in 2004! (not the most inspiring chant, but that's how I feel tonight)

91. I agree, we botched the priorities, and 70-30 is very accurate
The avalanche toward John Kerry is understandable, but IMO we needed inspired foresight, not fear-based conventional wisdom.

There are probably 1000 DU policy/experience posts for every 1 dealing with likeability. Then we'll be baffled when Kerry loses ground in the polls after debate #1.

Bush is currently a 5/8 favorite at offshore betting parlors, scheming daemons. But I think your 3/7 estimation is much more accurate, given the electoral college realities.

John Edwards, phenomenal effort. He more than lived up to my estimations as a candidate, and earned every penny -- and then some -- of my $100 contribution.

30. I gotta say, this was hard.
I remember last year - Jan. 2, I think - when Edwards announced he was going to run. I remember September 16th when he formally entered the race (also the date that Clark declared his candidacy, for those keeping score). *sniff* There were times when I didn't support John Edwards, but I like the guy. I guess this is the first time I've ever followed a campaign from start to finish.

52. i'm glad we mostly stayed together
the kerry and edwards supporters have mostly been good to each other. and notice when there was competition between them later on it mostly focused on issues like trade, environment or other important issues and didn't get into nasty personal attacks. this is why those 2 were the last 2 frontrunners left standing. both their campaigns had mostly been about issues.

it's weird because i'm happy that kerry will be the nominee, but i feel some sadness about edwards dropping out. i haven't felt as sad as i do about edwards as i did about the others dropping out. probably because kerry and edwards were together for much of the campaign, remember how they were behind, and suddenly, both came up ahead and in the end, of the front runners, they were the 2 left.

was one of the best messaged to come out of this Primary...it resonated with EVERYONE I talked to who heard it or even heard ABOUT it. I was not a supporter, but I consider this speech/theme to be a gift to the Democrats, who should NOT let it drop. And to all his supporters, like the supporters of other candidates who've dropped out, your good hard work has helped spread the word and will help us win in Nov.; it will have an effect, as will J.E. himself, I am sure. 68. Looking forward
I'm bummed out. Though I gave up on the Edwards campaign several days ago, I'm now feeling like we're going into this fight with one arm tied behind our back (the south arm, I guess).

Kerry will have to choose a VP candidate that delivers Florida or Ohio. Go to http://www.johnedwards2004.com/map/ and play with the map. It's a tough game to win without Edwards at the top of the ticket.

As for putting Edwards on the ticket now.... I don't know if it would help Kerry win, or just lose a lot of southern states by a few thousend fewer votes. Could Edwards deliver North Carolina? I doubt it.

It's all out of our hands. However the economy goes is how the election will go.

69. A well run campaign, a strong candidate,
committed supporters... who all leave us with a message that will resound within households and workplaces across America... there ARE two Americas...

Thank you Sen. Edwards (and supporters). Your contribution has been, and will continue to be, very important.

74. Sorry to see Edwards go..
He was my second choice guy.. and my first choice after Dean left the race. I really like Edwards, and hope he considers trying it again. Perhaps he will be considered for VP. That would be awesome. Like the other candidates, he brought important issues to the race, and will be missed.

75. What a sad day...
I waved signs with fellow volunteers all day, all around Orange County. (I'm out in CA.) My feet hurt, my throadt hurts from cheering. And then the news....

At 4:30, the campaign coordinator went on a conference call.

You know the rest.

:( I will stand behind Kerry, but I don't think my heart will ever be as much into politics as it has been when working for Edwards.

78. Good job Senator Edwards, you ran a great race....
....and you future is bright.

Although I supported Dennis Kucinich, I am proud to tell people that John Edwards was my Senator when I lived in North Carolina. I actually voted for Edwards twice in 1998, once in the Democratic primary, and once in the general election when he unseated a right-wing Republican.

I am proud he talked about issues the DLC no longer likes to talk about because they feel they're "too liberal": issues of job loss, lower wages, the "two Americas", etc.

I also want to congratulate and thank the many Edwards supporters I encountered here in MN who were nothing but classy and nice. You reflected upon your candidate very well.

81. He may not be President in 2004 but
I have no doubts that Edwards will one day be President of the United States!

I hope he continues to speak out on the important issues facing this country.

82. Hi to all you Edwards supporters
What a wonderful candidate your man was! He is sure to be a mover and shaker in the democratic party for years to come.

It is so sad to come to the end of this wonderful ride, with all of our courageous and beautiful candidates from the gracious Carol Mosley-Braun, dynamic Howard Dean, distinctive Dick Gephardt, awe-inspiring General Wesley Clark to your smart and charismatic John Edwards.

How great our party is to have such a plethora of talent, intelligence and sincerity. Long may it thrive; and, hopefully all of these respected party members will do everything in their power to elect our nominee and rid our country of the snakes who now inhabit our government. YEA democrats. Go get 'em!!!

83. Edwards Supporters - Keep the Faith
I know it's sad to see your guy drop out, and you have my sympathies. But something tells me we haven't seen nearly the last of him. He's really just starting out, and he's got a great political career ahead of him. Give yourself a moment to be sad tonight, but then look to the future - the best is yet to come.

84. No regrets, but now it's time to pull together.
Edwards ran a fantastic campaign that changed the tone of the political debate for the better. He defined the vision of the Democratic party eloquently.

I was glad to be a part of that in even a small way.

We really need him as vp if we're going to pull out a victory in the fall. Here's hoping we will be hearing him on the campaign trail in the months to come.

Thanks to the Edwards supporters at DU for their insightful, and often eloquent posts. Thanks also to the supporters of the other candidates for some stimulating debates.

It's time to pull together and win this thing. As John Edwards said this election is bigger than petty sniping between candidates.

86. Thank you for fighting the good fight, Edwards Supporters!!
It was one helluva campaign. Edwards was the heart of an historic primary season, and he stayed in and fought until the bitter, but too-quick-coming, end.

:-(

Very depressed that it's all over,
Jennifer

I've carelessly omitted. Y'all fought the good fight and you rarely sunk to the level of those who on occasion baited you. You did your candidate proud. JE certainly will have opportunities ahead of him the future and you will too. After y'all take a well deserved break I hope you'll be recharged enough to help with the biggest goal, giving Bush the whooping he deserves.

90. thanks and congratulations!
Don't worry. I think most Edwards supporters have their eyes on the prize and will work hard to see Kerry wipe that smirk off of W's face.

I have my fingers crossed for a Kerry/Edwards ticket-the dream team of the Democratic party. That ticket could usher in 16 years of Democrats in the White House which should be almost enough time to clean up Bush's mess.
