John McCain Just Defined The 2008 GOP Narrative
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 09:36 PM by Magic Rat
"Pull the troops out and Al-Queda wins."

How does our nominee, whoever it is, respond to that narrative?

In October of 2008, at Hofstra University on Long Island, there will be a presidential debate on foreign policy. One Republican candidate and one Democratic candidate will be standing there.

That will be their argument.

What will be ours?

1. The battle is not between the US and Al quaida
the battle is between the US and its future

Destroying America's future for a hollow unattainable victory against Al quaida is just not patriotic

and Pakistan.

4. I'm glad Ron Paul is still in the debates...
the contrast of what he says about SOME of the issues (I'm aware of the underbelly of his platform) such as the war and the economy provide a nice contrast to the robotic, lock-step approach of the others.

6. Al quaeda is responsible for less than 10% of the Iraqi violence
Al Quaeda wins if we keep being distracted in Iraq away from the job of hunting them down.

Al Quaeda is NOT a military-based organization. They are religious nutcases. They are criminals. Do you fight organized crime with tanks? Religious extremism with missles?

7. Well it's a great test of character for the American people
Our candidate cannot match that. It's a lie. I'm thinking that a majority of the people are sick of the lies. They don't want this war, they know it was based on lies. So maybe telling the truth is the best policy.

Our line is this war is bankrupting this country. (It's true and it's the topic du jour!!!!!!) Al Queda is not Iraq. This war is not giving us anything. There is nothing to win. Leaving is winning-for our pocketbooks and our soldiers. We need them ready to fight a real conflict that may happen any day. We need them in America to fight wildfires and floods and whatever the NATIONAL guard can do for Americans in America.
