Lieberman Gets Post In McCain Campaign
After campaigning in other states for Republican John McCain, Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman now holds a formal post with the presidential candidate's campaign in Connecticut.

Lieberman, a member of the Senate Democratic caucus, was named Tuesday a chairman of McCain's state leadership team, with U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays, R-4th District.

Democrats immediately wondered if Lieberman, who declared himself an "independent Democrat" after his re-election in 2006, would campaign here for McCain.

--
"There will be some Democrats who don't appreciate it," Shays said.

George Jepsen, the former Democratic state chairman who supported Ned Lamont's challenge of Lieberman in the Democratic primary, said Lieberman's endorsement of McCain is a "thumb in the eye" to Democrats who believed Lieberman's claim in 2006 that he was committed to electing a Democrat in 2008.

8. Joe Lieberman has been a disgrace to the Democratic Party for a long time.
And just when you think it can't get much worse, it does.

And just what the hell is an "independent Democrat" anyway? You are either a Democrat, or you aren't...correct?

Maybe McCain will put him on the ticket as VP. That should be good for a few laughs!

10. Is ANYONE surprised at this?

If "some Democrats who don't appreciate it" include Reid, he should have known. Those of us who supported Ned Lamont certainly knew it, tried to warn everyone that Lieberman was lying to the Democrats when he said he wanted to be in the Senate to make sure that a Democrat was elected in 2008. Many of us, who are not leading Democrats knew he was lying.

(Edit to correct typo)

13. You know...
It was specifically his DINO backers on this forum during his run in '04 and the way they defended his trashing of the party
and how he'd be “a good Democrat nonetheless” that effectively pushed me away from posting here. Even after he was defeated in a Democratic primary and ran opposite a Dem.

And of course, he continued along his trending path and effectively abandoned the party, stabbing Dems in the back and holding his caucus vote hostage against progressives.

God damn him and those who enabled him. Now he works outright with a GOP opponent.

I pray we get enough of a majority this cycle to where he can be unceremoniously drummed out of his committee chairs and ultimately kick this weasel hard and to the fucking curb for good.

held office that supported Lamont from the beginning. Dodd supported him toward the end but not very enthusiastically. From the rest of them the silence was deafening. They pretty much hung Lamont out to dry and tiptoed around Lieberman so as not to upset him I guess. Lamont lost by 4%. Had the Democrats come out and supported him from the beginning, he would be our Senator. I hope they are feeling really stupid now.
