Is Obama "too perfect" to be president?
I am an Edwards supporter, and I ask this in all seriousness.

If you take his explanation for his "present" votes as gospel, and his explanation of voting against a cap on the credit card interest rate (I voted against it because 30% is too high of a cap) that he espoused in last night's debate, I think a question arises.

Will Obama accept legislation that is "less than perfect" in his eyes? I mean, a 30% cap is better than *no* cap to me, and we got the no cap in the end.

Would he veto legislation that raised the minimum wage to say $11.25 per hour because he thinks it should be $12.25?

I know this sounds absurd, but the interest cap explanation, and, if you read the explanation of the "present" votes, the question looms large to me.

I have always been a "perfection is the enemy of the good" type of guy. I also believe it is legitimate to not believe that way, but in a compromise, it usually comes down to knowing that the deal is as good as it can get, and then making a yea or nay decision.

1. Federal law would have superceded state law which may be lower than 30%

So some people paying over 30% (who pays over 30%?) would have had rates lowered to 30% and some people whose rates were capped at a lower rate by state usury laws may have seen their rates go up to 30%.

Not as clear cut as it was made out to be.

2. Do you have a link for that assertion?
I know that the federal minimum wage law did not supercede state laws. I would think that if a state had a more restrictive law, say a cap at 20%, that would be it.

5. It would probably go to court once it was signed into law I believe.

But our senators against this bill believed this is how it would be read.

11. Heres the rule.
State cannot trump Federal law.

Example, If Federal Minimum wage is $10.00 an hour State law can make it greater than but not less than.

Another example if there is a Federal law Granting Same Sex marriage, States cannot ban it even in their Constitution, unless of course the secede from the Union.

3. IDK
The current president doesn't sign anything that's not exactly what he wants, so apparently it makes Obama very presidential

4. I think that is valid. "Send it back until they get it right".
I do not think it is the way I would prefer a president to be. I sure don't approve of this president doing it.

But, it is within his rights. I am just wondering if that is what he believes and/or what we can expect if he is elected.

7. It sure works
Unless congress only has a backbone for Democratic presidents, I imagine it will work well for him.

6. At least he voted against the final bill
Edwards and Clinton voted for the bankuptcy bill that was similar in 2001.

Many Senators voted against that amendment calling it poorly written. They were concerned how it would impact state caps.

10. Yes, the republicans voted against it because they were anti-consumer protection

BUT, they joined together with progressives who were concerned that state usury laws would be superseded as I mentioned above. And if Federal Law did overrule state law, states would have absolutely no control over predatory lending in interest rates.

12. Well, his hair is not as "perfect" as some candidates.......
But I like his style, and I like his history, I like his plans, and I like how he proposes to enact his plans.

He's not perfect, but there are enough criticizing him here day in day out on stoopid shit....that I don't need to list his deficits.
