Joseph Lowery on African Americans with doubts about Obama...slavery mentality
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 11:58 AM by SaveElmer

"No matter how much education they have, they never graduated from the slave mentality," Lowery said at a community forum in Atlanta, in which he was asked about African-Americans who have said Obama should have waited longer to run for president, or doubt his electability. Lowery added, "The slavery mentality compels us to say, 'We can't win, we can't do.'"

So african american support for Hillary or Edwards is not because these voters have made a rational decision on their preference...no...it's because of some deep seated version of an inferiority complex which drives them to oppose Obama...

Nice

2. That seems a bit...misguided.

While I'm sure that race will be a factor in the decision of many, I would hope that it's not the only criterion.

At the same time, I certainly hope that this kind of thinking is not indicative of reality. I would think that we've moved on by now and understand that a candidate like Obama can - and should - transcend racial barriers, but that other candidates can do so, as well.
