Thinking strategically 8 years ahead, I think Obama should be on Clinton's ticket
this year. I don't think it's that unlikely. I think the primaries will be a protracted slugfest between Obama and Clinton, and we'll be heading into the Convention on a cliffhanger. The party will be split down the middle. The only two ways I think we can achieve a unified Democratic ticket will be if a) Obama agrees to join Clinton in the general election, or b) both Obama and Clinton step aside for a third unity candidate, Gore. I see a) as more likely than b). I think Gore has too much respect for the party ways to do it, but I don't think Obama's ego would prevent him from doing a). The third way - a brokered Convention in which Edwards and Obama form a ticket to the exclusion of Clinton, is I think far less likely than a). Clinton does have a legitimate base, and pushing her aside would not go well. I think we will be looking at a gentleman's ticket, Clinton/Obama in November.

1. Obama should not ride a sinking ship.
Hillary will not be president. Obama should stay as far away from her as possible.

2. Thinking strategically, Clinton should stay in the Senate.
Obama/Edwards ticket is best bet. Obama's senate seat would be filled by another Dem, Clinton's seat could go republican.

5. I get the feeling his supporters wouldn't trust his judgement on this.
There was a long thread last night where some stated they wouldn't be in favor of either possibility (O-C or C-O).

Since such a pairing could only happen with the agreement of both---what does this say?

FTR, I'm a Hillary supporter and would be enthusiastic about EITHER pairing.

7. Too early to talk VP, IMHO. That said VP should be fresh/original choice.
Someone who shows the public what kind of choices a pres would make in office.

10. Obam CANNOT gain anything from being on a Clinton name ticket and hears why
If Hillary gets the nomination and picks him as a VP and if she runs for reelection and wins and then 2016 election comes up he will not win the Presidency because by that time people will be looking for the republican party to take over the white house.plus it is VERY hard for a Vice President to win elections.
