Interesting clues from Obama's campaign memo about Hillary surrogates' strategy
Edited on Mon Jan-14-08 01:28 PM by ProSense
Look at the dates:

Earliest date: DRUG USE (ABC News, 12/12/07)

(Here is a link)

Latest date: SHUCK AND JIVE (Newsday, 1/11/08)

That memo was obviously written after Jan. 11, days after Hillary's MLK comment and a full month after the drug use comment by the Clinton campaign.

On edit: This recent memo is being hyped by the Clinton campaign as proof that the Obama campaign is race baiting, but the Clinton campaign has been injecting racially charged comments into the debate for more than a month.

edited typos.

by the campaign. The incidents are all questionable - maybe not to someone who sits and hunts for them 24/7

8. A talking points memo details how people should talk about something...
This is not a talking points memo. Orrr, it's the least effective talking points memo in history.

10. It's effective in that it gets people doing what it asks. It's not in accomplishing
something good for the candidate. Or the party. or the primaries. Or the dialogue level.

17. Maybe, maybe not. If you're right, it only proves that it's a poor strategy.

6. The Clintons are hyping this memo?
This memo contains only statements about the incidents in question.

It does not tell Obama supporters to talk about them.

It does not tell Obama supporters how to talk about them.

If the Clintons are hyping this as a "talking points memo", wouldn't that tell a reasoning, thinking person WHO exactly is driving this issue? Can you give evidence that the Clinton campaign proper is hyping this?

9. The Clinton campaign, here:
Asked for evidence of the Obama campaign's role in fomenting the controversy, a Clinton aide cited a staff memo, leaked to political blogs, that compiled quotes by Clinton and her allies that seemed racially insensitive.

12. And this is "hyping" because? It's embarrassing for Obama to deliberately
hunt for everything that can be interpreted as "race issue" and tell his supporters to spread it around. It's quite legit for the Clintons - who happen to be the subject of the dirty trick to "mention" it. How is this "hyping" again - and why shouldn't they bring it up?

19. "hunt for everything that can be interpreted as "race issue"? They had to hunt? Speaking of hunt:

Bill Clinton complains about Obama's attacks

(CNN) -- Former President Clinton on Monday complained about attacks from Sen. Barack Obama on Sen. Hillary Clinton in the latest in the back-and-forth between the two rival Democratic presidential campaigns.

"I've got before me a list of 80 attacks on Hillary that are quite personal by Sen. Obama and his campaign going back six months that I've had pulled," he said, speaking to CNN contributor Roland Martin on WVON-AM's "The Roland S. Martin Show" based in Chicago, Illinois.

On the program, Martin played a recording of comments Sunday by Black Entertainment Television founder Bob Johnson that appeared to criticize Obama's admitted past drug use.

Johnson later said he was referring to Obama's community organizing efforts.

The former president said Johnson needs to be "taken at his word," adding that "nobody knew" what he would say and "it wasn't part of any planned strategy."

How petty!

No one had to hunt for the points issued in a memo a few days ago. They were being discussed on DU when the issues were raised (hereand here, for example).

15. Let me help: "tell everyone that every time the Clintons talk "race" it's a
subliminal attack on us.
No matter how justified the comment (but always try to see if it's flawed) it's meant to remind voters that I am black.
It has nothing to do with MLK day, Southern primaries time. It's personal attack on me - go tell people THAT. And you do.

But it's true, that is what the Clinton campaign is trying to do. Don't you find underhandedness disconcerting?

23. How is speaking of drug use racist?
How is fairy tale racist?

Apologies were made for the shuck and jive comment, but in context it is pretty clear it was not racist.

Words are being twisted, outrage being feigned. I really hope this sick bs backfires.
