1. I'm for the separation of church and state.
I do NOT like this.

When the Evangelicals are pushing their sweetheart in the pulpit, a lot of us go nuts, admit it.

8. Well, I'm not crazy about it either, but maybe
they invited him, or it was a matter of it being a Sunday. He is a Christian, so going to church is to be expected. As long as he didn't give the sermon, I can deal.

I figure I won't see an atheist run for president in my lifetime.

Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 08:56 PM by Kristi1696
I'm also for separation of church and state, but are people's voices any less important if they're religous? I should hope not.

22. In all fairness, I don't like that she did it either.
It's hypocritical (understatement of the day) for us to bitch about Republicans pimping for votes from the religious right when we do the same from the religious left.

And it's not that their voices are less important. Good grief, the religious are the largest demographic in America. I don't think they have any problem being heard.

Besides, If people seem to think this is OK, would they still think so if we saw politicians wooing the Zoroastrian vote, and the Rastafarian vote, and the Scientology vote, and the Wiccan vote, and the Muslim vote, etc. etc. ad naseum? That would be a little over the top huh? I might seem like they were just pandering. :eyes:

25. I don't see how churches can allow candidates to speak at their churches
and still retain their tax-exempt status.

26. Because they don't turn anyone down.
IF Romney want to come for a visit, he could.

As long as their is equal access, it means that the church isn't endorsing anyone.

27. Seems to me...
If I remember correctly, as long as they don't endorse one candidate, they are in the clear. They can push issues but not candidates or parties. This makes for an easy out. They simply "encourage" their parishioners to review all of the candidates that meet their criteria (which typically leaves them with one choice) and then "vote their conscience".
