Big Congratulations to Senator Barack Obama. You May Have Won Me Over Tonight.
I've sat it out all year, but tonight the guy who opposed the war in Iraq has beaten all the odds and inspired NEW voters to show up, turn out and stick with the candidate.

This is a historic evening. The first contest of the year is won by a man of color in the white, white state of Iowa. That speaks to my heart and inspires me in ways I can not even communicate.

Congratulations to Senator Obama and all of his supporters who have worked so hard to make this evening happen. The victory was yours.

Tonight I am an Obama guy!

6. John did very well tonight coming from way behind in just weeks. He's still in the running.
But tonight belongs to Senator Obama. It might be an Obama/Edwards ticket.

5. I'm standing with Edwards, but if he doesn't make it, I'm for Obama
I, too, am ready for change. I hope Barack Obama will pick up on Edwards' fire, but he will get my vote, IF Edwards drops out.

John Edwards isn't anywhere near finished, though.

Congrats to Obama. Tonight's his night.

10. Now I agree
It's time to call the Neocons in for a big party, so everybody can just get along.

Don't be surprised when the Neocons, who have stabbed us in the back 1000 times out of 1000 times in the last 20 years don't do it again.

Cooperation my ass. This marshmallow man is going to get cut to shreds in his first 100 days of office by the knives of the neocons. I sure hope he picks a good VP to move in when he has his mental breakdown by day 100.

Good god the democrats depress me. Always acting in their own worst interests. Not a single worthwhile candidate.

13. Yes, congratulations to Senator Obama and his supporters...
I wanted Gore to get in and I prefer Biden or Edwards, but I would have no problem voting for Obama in the general. This is a day that I am happy to see - an African American winning a Presidential primary. I'm so proud to be a Democrat tonight!

17. He's done really well.
Turnout was through the roof. If he can get independents and first time voters involved in the political process like this, he may well end up President.

Big night!

You write: "If he can get independents and first time voters involved in the political process like this, he may well end up President."

I think that this is a watershed moment in American history.

What an amazing speech he just delivered in Iowa.

This is the one that can win. And I like all our candidates, but Barack showed his stuff tonight.

Every Obama supporter who worked for him up to this point should be very proud. Tonight is your night.

And I am now on board...late, but I'm here 100j% now.

34. And you, zidzi, are simply one of the reasons I come to the DU.
All I can say is that it took me a long time, but it was Iowa tonight that helped erase my hardened cynicism and made me want to believe.

Barack is the one. There is no second choice anymore.

Thanks zidzi. And, if I may, here's a victory hug for you

39. Welcome aboard
I am a southern black woman who had a lot of friends and family watching the outcome in Iowa with bated breath. Now they know what I've always known.

Yes, a BLACK man can be the president of the UNITED States of America!!!
