Obama was right to be firm with the annoying lady.
Edited on Mon Nov-19-07 08:11 PM by madfloridian
I am sorry, but we still have neighbors who think Bush made us safer by attacking Iraq. They still think Saddam brought down the towers. We no longer let them pull that stuff on us, we fight back now.

If someone is that able to be manipulated then it is well past time someone got in their face about it.

Good for Obama, I don't blame him.

If we get upset when our Democrats speak the truth, then we are not going to win anything....nor do we deserve to do so.

On edit, I changed the subject to firm, because it is said he was not mad.

Actually I am in full defense mode...but used the wrong word.

1. What annoying lady?
I've been out all afternoon and have no idea what you're talking about. What happened?

40. He wasn't that angry at Donnie McClurkin. Too bad that lady didn't have a tour shirt on.
She would've got a hug instead of an angry tirade.

6. Some of the transcript...again...good for him.
"No one could accuse the Obama campaign of planting questions at town hall meetings after hearing a 63-year-old Iowa farmer drill Obama at a Grundy Center event Sunday.

Obama called on Jane Svoboda near the end of his town hall meeting when she asked him why he hadn’t talked much about terrorism, the single biggest threat to the nation, as well as immigration. She asked for specifics - including his position on drivers licenses for illegal immigrants (which he did not answer).

What followed was a back and forth between the two. Svoboda was clearly was unsatisfied with Obama’s determination that there were 1.3 billion Muslims who are not hostile, but are likely to sympathize with anti-American sentiment because of bad foreign policy decisions by the US government.

She wondered how Obama would catch the jihadist Muslims if we pull troops out of Iraq and argued that Muslim factions collaborate with each other - so there are bad guys in Iraq who were likely involved in the destruction of the twin towers.

Obama heatedly informed Svoboda the assumption that Iraq was involved in plotting 9/11 was wrong. His irritation over this issue hinted at a broader frustration with Republican use of the issue to portray Democrats as weaker on issues on national security."

We have GOT to stop letting uninformed people control the dialogue.

This should be a turning point in his campaign, and there should be no criticism at DU.

15. Thanks for that link madfloridian
I had been looking for a better clip earlier and just gave up eventually.

I think that one clearly shows that he's not "yelling" as some have tried to say. Obama, himself says that he's "energetic," and that's exactly what he was, passionate about his answer.

This makes the whole ruckus even more silly and stupid.

26. Wow ! My opinion of Obama just escalated to the point of sending money
to his campaign.

What a WORLD of difference when you see the WHOLE exchange rather than the "edited" version shown by MSNBC/CNN. Hard to believe this was on a Fox News website, of all things. MSM also left out the hearty round of applause he got from the crowd. What a red herring. And even more disappointing to see how many people on DU have made a huge deal out of this, like it was a bad thing. We ARE our own worst enemies.

16. Chuck Todd said that the woman was a Republican who was trying to get a rise out of Obama.
Another reporter who was there said the woman was a heckler who was interrupting Obama constantly
and wouldn't let him finish his answer, and that he was reacting to her assertion that Iraq and 9/11
were linked and that Democrats weren't serious about national security.

27. She was there to create this kind of controversy..
so the media and right wing could then sit around and watch Dems attack each other over ONE OF OUR OWN CANDIDATES performance all day :-)

No Democrat running, in Svoboda’s opinion, has strong national security credentials. But, she applauded him at the event’s conclusion and said he did “a good job.”

someone calls her old or even elderly. I think she considers old to be over 90 at least until she is 90 then I suppose 100 will be old.. To get in the Senior Citizens Group you have to be 55 one lady couldn't admit she was that old until she hit 80.

34. My mother's 84 and exactly the same way.
Last year when I was visiting, she said her older brothers (who both have heart conditions) were driving up to see me (about a 90-minute drive).

I thought I was being considerate by saying, "Oh, don't let those old people drive all that way... I'll go down to visit them." Mom went absolutely berserk and started yelling, "They are NOT old! Don't you call them old!"

Actually, I think that reaction is a kind of denial based on fear, which is understandable but sad.

In any case, I now have a special, very limited vocabulary for my mother. :D

Shuster was wrong.

Obama was right on this one. It was time.

In 2003 when Dean said we were no safer with Saddam captured, the Democrats and Media bashed him for days.

But he was 100% right. We are no safer.

"She wondered how Obama would catch the jihadist Muslims if we pull troops out of Iraq and argued that Muslim factions collaborate with each other - so there are bad guys in Iraq who were likely involved in the destruction of the twin towers.

Obama heatedly informed Svoboda the assumption that Iraq was involved in plotting 9/11 was wrong.

She believed the bad guys of Iraq brought down the towers. It is time they all spoke up.

Any Democrat bashing him for that should hide their head in shame.

19. I'll bet there are more than a few voters who learned a history lesson from Obama today.
Good for him for speaking truth to power. What Obama did was good for all Democrats so let's give him kudos
because Democrats can only benefit when voters know the truth about all the lies BushCo has been telling about
Iraq and 9/11.
