Today the Repugs did the impossible: they made congressional Dems look even weaker
Could anyone who watched that shameful spectacle of the vote on H.R. 333 come to any other conclusion? The Democratic leadership trying desperately to NOT have to spend a day or two in front of the cameras saying mean things about the least popular person in the country while the Repugs forced their hand, knowing that the Dems would do ANYTHING do avoid this confrontation. Pathetic.

I keep thinking that it's not possible to be any more ashamed of the leaders of my party, and they keep exceeding my expectations.

1. Today was not a good day.
And it wasn't because we lost. It was because, AGAIN, we refused to even compete.

30. If the OP is to believed
the repukes are making the dems look weak. Ergo, anyone making the dems look weak is helping the repukes

You can argue that the dems deserve it. You can argue that it's true, the dems are weak.

But you can't argue against the facts that the repukes are making the dems look weak. Ergo, anyone making the dems look weak is helping the repukes

7. The good news, however...
...is that impeachment has just been forced back onto the table. And for that, I rejoice.

And it's a privileged resolution, so Kucinich is free to bring it back over and over again until further notice.

14. What do you want Jeb Bush as VP for a year
that is what you would have gotten if Dennis K, gets his way, why do you think Pelosi , held off with impeachment of Bush, the people in the know, don't want to chance putting a man in position to run for President in 2008 for instance Mitt Romney.

18. Jeb Bush isn't going to be VP for a year
If that's the reason to avoid doing what's right, then that's a pretty ridiculous reason.

Notwithstanding that, Pelosi said impeachment was off the table last year during the election cycle. That pretty much clears up her reasoning. She thinks impeachment will not benefit the party leadership politically. Simple.

19. That is no reason
to let these criminals continue. So fucking what? Jeb? None of them would be able to even get their feet wet. I would actually take anyone, even old Jeb who I detest more than I even care to admit over Cheney.

Why on earth would being second in command to the worst president in history give anyone a boost for president when the people are screaming for change. It seems the Dems could have given them that change today but instead they sat on their hands and let the Republicans have their way with them once again. I will be surprised if 20% of the country even bothers to vote anymore.

27. I'm truly amazed at the level of outrage about a result that has been predicted here for months
For months, some of us have been saying that the House will not take on the issue of impeachment because the Democratic caucus, in large part, doesn't support the effort. So today, DK takes a step, which I have no problem with him doing because the result was preordained, and it got some publicity for the effort, but the leadership, correctly in my view, made sure that DK's resolution didn't go down to inglorious defeat at the hands of a unanimous repub caucus plus enough red-state Democrats to leave it short of a majority.

My only complaint with DK's strategy is that I think it would've been better if his resolution had called for the Judiciary Committee to conduct an impeachment inquiry and report back to the full house (the approch taken in commencing the Nixon and Clinton impeachments) rather than attempting to go straight to impeachment by the full House without any inquiry by the Committee.

In the end, it probably wouldn't have made any difference in the way things worked out. Even the resolution I have described would probably have been referred to committee, leaving the committee free to do nothing. But it could've made it a bit more interesing imo.

No one outside of a a small circle of freinds really cares about what is going on in the House...

MSNBC gave it a lot of play but really, when you are competing with the meltdown of an Islamic Nuclear Power, a pissing match in the House of Representatives really doesn't mean all that much...
