6. They can stand up, finally, and apologize
The first apology they owe is to the LGBT community whom they threw under the bus en masse for this asshole. Next, they can apologize to Democrats everywhere, straight and gay, for such a disgusting display of pandering.

I'm not holding my breath.

13. Because you do not like him holding a gospel concert with someone you may not like
however, African Americans tend to like his music is not pandering. African Americans love Gospel music. It may not be for you. However, the concert was not able his sexual preference. It was about religion. That is something everyone here tries to push. They were not having a meeting to talk about sexual orientation. If so, it would have been called that. It was about listening to gospel music. The bottom line is no one here gets that. However, others do get it. Bottom line if someone did not want to hear Donnie sing, they did not have to show up. Religious people have a right to hear whomever sing.

On another note Donnie's perference is up to him and the person he sleeps with. It is not for me to decide or judge. People can do what they want with their own bodies. If they determine one thing is not for them, they may go to something else. With that being said, I could care less what he does with his body as long as it is not with me. It is called FREEDOM to do what the hell you want people. I know most of you do not get that he has that right.

And thank you for enlightening me to the fact that blacks like gospel music...I would have never guessed. :sarcasm:

Question for you....who brought up sexual orientation at the religious gospel concert?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=3657614&mesg_id=3657614

Look. If McClurkin is happy with his life now, great, whatever. But as a GLBT Democrat and one who would vote for Obama if he is the nominee, I find this "God saved me from homosexuality" crap offensive in the extreme. I do NOT think a person's sexual orientation is something to be "saved" from. I am a gay man who is quite comfortable with his sexual orientation. And I think that a Presidential campaign who would hire someone like this, whose candidate purports to support GLBT equality, should be ashamed of themselves for tacitly going along with this kind of bigotry.

Try these on for size:

God saved me from being black
God saved me from being a woman
God saved me from being handicapped
God saved me from being depressed
God saved me from being an immigrant
God saved me from being Jewish

and so on and so on....

His turn of phrase makes homosexuality equal to the fucking plague. He's a hateful bigot.

11. Hard to come to any conclusion other then Obama has adopted the Republican tactic...
Edited on Mon Oct-29-07 12:02 PM by SaveElmer
Of bashing gays to certain constituencies for votes...

While I am (obviously) a strong Hillary supporter, this actually makes me very sad...I have relatives who are gay, cousin and my sister, and I know how this type of attitude just enables anti-gay folks to claim it is just a "disease" or an "abnormality" that needs to be cured, rather than what it is, an innate part of how some people are born, and as such those people need to be treated equally...

Despite my criticisms of Obama up to now, I have always admired him and that he was the future star of the party...this really tarnishes that for me!

Edited on Mon Oct-29-07 12:13 PM by FlaxieB
He will not pander to one section of the democratic base like some people. He has supported the GBLT and well as other groups. However, he will not deny one group of people because one section of the democratic base would like him to either. There are religious Dems, Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asian, Muslims etc. We are all one party. However, he does not have to choose one section of the party. He has stated his views. He does not have to agree with everyone's views such as Donnie. He has in as much stated that. However, he is not going to fore sake the religious group either. He is not supposed to be representing one section of America. He is supposed to represent ALL of America. That is what a President does. All not just one group. If we want one group, then we should put Bush back in the White House. It is about ALL the People of These United States.

Civil rights only matter to Obama if they directly affect him. Or if he finds there are more votes to be gained by pandering to religious bigots and homophobes. He has only proven that he is as flawed as everyone else. He offers no change: just same same (but different).

Your post clearly implies that you think it's religious Democrats vs. gay Democrats.

Not every religious Democrat is a homophobic bigot. Our beef is only with those. So please quit framing this as "people of faith" versus "others" conflict.

My brother Tim is gay and talks about gaydar, but thinking about it, yeah its my stereotype- like saying, straight guys can always pick ...

I am a passionate supporter of GLBT rights. The pink triangle is a stark reminder of where the tracks of bigotry and hatred lead. But if I am asked, I will say I am prejudiced ... a thousand conscious and unconscious prejudgments. However, once in a social situation, it all seems rather unimportant.
