I suspect Stephen Colbert is in self destruct mode, like most comedians they are in a constant
battle with their dark side. Becoming an actual candidate will mean the end of his show. Comedy Central and Colbert will not be able to afford the financial disclosure laws and the FEC rules regrading actual candidates. He must deep down what to quit or take a leave from the public.

He probably should get out, while he is still on top.

8. I met him once and told him he was my hero
He was still doing the candidate thing and gave me a couple of campaign pins. It was right before he died. He was a very sweet man.

22. Great story!
You should photo and post a pin! Those were the days. Politics seemed a lot the same, but the parties seemed very, very different. After reading about him, I think I could have easily been a Goldwater Republican! Weird!!!

5. Maybe thats the idea?
My mother always told me not to quit one job until I had another.
Besides, he could still do his comedy routine from Washington.
Why not, the rest of them are jokers anyway.

11. Hey...I grew up in SC just an Island over from Stephen...and
anything he can do to shake up the hell hole of Repug Scorpion's den that SC Politics has become since he and I grew up there...then MORE POWER TO HIM!

He's doing a GOOD THING if he's serious...and I believe he is to shake up that cess pool down there in SC that still is the frontrunner for Repug Politics for SUPER TUESDAY! SC Repugs have worked hard to drown out all but he most RW Fundie Voices in both Political Parties. I have to give :applause: to Colbert for challenging SC on this.

It's GREAT! We had some good Dems like Ernest Hollings who got beaten out by the most ignorant Religious Fundamentalists in the US when they assumed power during Reagan. I'm ashamed of the state I grew up in because of "Huckleberry Graham" and a bunch of corrupt Dems who are DLC Suck Ups no better than Repugs.

If Colbert can work to CLEAN UP SC then it's a great start for the REST OF AMERICA! GO STEPHEN!!! Drain that SWAMP! Don't wait for Pelosi to do it!!!!

Didn't you read the title on The Daily Show for election coverage? "Indecision 2008: The Clusterfuck to the White House"?

Don't you realize what that rather nasty word means? A bunch of candidates from BOTH parties trying to get ahead in a massive traffic jam. Candidates trying to become "the one" for their party and failing, because the public is stupid and tired and disgusted and have lost all hope? And therefore, what is there to do during the political process but to lean back and laugh at it?

That, dear Perry Logan, is the reason why it's a comedy. Or more precisely a farce. Because the participants in the process (the candidates and very politicized people like you) don't realize how foolish they look from the outside. And that's been true of every election in the last twenty years.

You and the candidates don't realize that there was a time, once, when elections had at least the trappings of joy about them. Given the supposed weakness of the Republicans right now, the Democratic candidate-winnowing process should be a matter of joy for everyone. After all, we're about to undo a lot that's wrong with this country and its attitudes.

Only somebody didn't let you and the candidates know you were supposed to be joyful. And that may be another reason why the Democrats will lose in 2008. You're all a bunch of freaking sourpusses.

And that, to borrow from Colbert, is The Word.
