Republicans set to break record for most filibusters in a term
Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 11:06 PM by antiimperialist
The record of most filibusters in a congressional term is 58.

According to the McClatchy Newspapers, as of July 18th of this year, Republicans had extended debate 42 times, which translates to a projection of 153 at the end of this term, shattering the previous record.

Republicans are obstructionists.

1. Yup
We need to really win a HUGE majority in the Senate in 2008.

2. Thanks for posting this.
The Democrats have tried to pass a lot of good legislation, only to be passed with a majority and put down with filibusters, and vetoes.

4. Trent Lott admitted this was the Republican strategy
“The strategy of being obstructionist can work or fail ... so far it’s working for us.”
Trent Lott, April 18, 2007.

3. Fillibusters should be like timeouts in the NFL
You should get a certain number per session of Congress. A certain number for each party in the Senate. You have to use them sparingly, when it's most important and the stakes are highest. When they are used up, too bad.

6. These are the same people who whined & cried fowl when
they were in charge because the Dems filibustered too much. Remember they actually threatened to pass a law outlawing filibustering entirely. Reid promised not to filibuster again unless it was an emergency...and the Dems stopped filibustering! Too bad they didn't outlaw it because the slimy Rethugs are using it now to extreme...but at the time they thought they would be in control forever. Wrong!
