Dear President Gore, Please don't make the same mistake Wesley Clark did.
Wes Clark's endorsement won't make much difference to the Clinton campaign. Oh sure, it might throw a few Clark supporters her way, but they probably would have gone there if Clark stayed out of the race. The rest of Clark's supporters are more independent minded and will just as likely now turn up in various Democratic candidate camps. This is surely not a case of Clark's people going to Clinton just because he endorsed her.

I also think that Clark's supporters would just as soon he never endorsed anyone. That statement has nothing to do with whom he endorsed - just the fact that he did. It makes them feel he's less likely to get a veep nod from anyone but the person he endorsed.

All in all, the endorsement was pretty much a non event in the world of politics. It will have little practical impact on the race or the candidates. Clark's endorsements for Senate, House, and local candidates had much more impact. But even that was based on an independent Wes Clark.

So now his supporters find themselves adrift. Still respecting their General, they feel let down, disappointed, disillusioned, maybe some even ready to just stop paying attention, much as they did before the discovered the General in 03.

President Gore, you have similar supporters. They're with you because of who you are and what you stand for. They're probably more unlikely to simply stop paying attention, but they might. They want you to run much as the General's supporters wanted him to run. But even in the absence of such an announcement, they look to you for leadership. They respect you. You give them hope.

Many of your supporters are already in some other candidate's camp. But those for whom that statement is true, would be by your side in a heartbeat. And you know that.

Please, President Gore. Don't waste your endorsement early. If you don't run, please wait until the eve of Decision Day (which might be the Iowa caucuses or New Hampshire ..... or just as easily a later primary).

But more than anything, President Gore ..... PLEASE don't close the door on another run yourself. And if you do, take Wes Clark with you as your partner. You two, as a team, would be unstoppable. But more than that, you two, as a team, may well be exactly what's needed to heal the party and the nation ..... and the world. At least consider giving the country a chance to decide for sure if they see it that way, too.

Please, President Gore. Do the right thing.

Your admirer,
Stinky

3. So republicans lite if someone does not agree with you they are wrong.
Here you fault the republicans, and the religious right because they want you to believe what they do, but yet, you are saying it is OK for you to fault people who dont' believe as YOU do.

4. What????????
Are you sure you're in the right thread?

That comment makes NO sense in the context of the OP.

If it does, please clarify so my small mind can grasp it.

5. Gore/Clark has always been my dream ticket, and my heart sunk
when Clark endorsed Hillary, specifically because of what I was wishing would happen.

he is really not happy about what has happened to the whole political debate, and this 2 year campaign shit. he will not endorse until it gets closer to february, and the start of primaries.

10. With all due respect, I have a question....
Does Al Gore made any effort to communicate with grassroots supporters beyond a few issues? Is he at all engaged in a dialogue with y'all?

No disrespect intended....

11. Please, Al Gore Was Part Of The Greatest Administration Of The Past 30 Years
Why on Earth would he not support Hillary? She's going to be the nomination. I know you would like a candidate to come in a pretty bow, but come on now. Hillary knows how the game works, and that's why she wins. The mistake Gore made was not letting Bill Clinton go and support his candidacy.

14. We don't need to get into that now
but you should know that Lieberman had strongly criticized Bill Clinton's inappropriate behavior towards a vulnerable Whitehouse intern, and his subsequent misleading statements about the affair.

Gore was sending out the signal that he disapproved of Clinton's antics. He also promised to install a webcam in the oval office and leave it online 24-7.

Plus Lieberman is a member of a minority group and Al Gore strongly believes in diversity.

Back in 2000 - Lieberman was a mostly reliable member of the Democratic caucus in the Senate.

13. As much as I love Al Gore
I don't think it is likely that he will make another run for the Whitehouse.

He is busy writing his next book "The Path To Survival" - coming out in April 2008.

But we can still dream! B-)

THE LAST TEMPTATION OF AL GORE
By Eric Pooley
TIME Magazine -- May 17, 2007

Let's say you were dreaming up the perfect stealth candidate for 2008, a Democrat who could step into the presidential race when the party confronts its inevitable doubts about the front runners. You would want a candidate with the grass-roots appeal of Barack Obama -- someone with a message that transcends politics, someone who spoke out loud and clear and early against the war in Iraq. But you would also want a candidate with the operational toughness of Hillary Clinton -- someone with experience and credibility on the world stage.
In other words, you would want someone like Al Gore -- the improbably charismatic, Academy Award-winning, Nobel Prize-nominated environmental prophet with an army of followers and huge reserves of political and cultural capital at his command.
