Some GOPers are stupid. Check this 'pro-life' voter out
AP Poll: GOP presidential race a toss-up

WASHINGTON - White men, conservatives, evangelicals and other pivotal blocs are divided among the Republican Party's leading contenders for president, leaving the race for the 2008 GOP nomination highly fluid, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll...

Lisa Baudoin, 40...said she is a conservative and supporting Thompson because of his views on abortion and immigration. She said she does not like Giuliani's more moderate immigration stance or his three marriages, and doesn't like McCain's opposition to the U.S. torturing terrorism suspects.

"How are you going to get information? They don't play nice. Why do we have to if no one else is," she said.

Someone please explain to me how these devils can claim to be christian on the one hand, and then out of the other side of their mouths, they approve of every kind of evil GW Bush can come up with?

Selective reading of the bible? Stupidity?

27. Republicans in this country come from the BUBBA TORQUEMADA sect of Christ Insanity.
Republicans in this country come from the BUBBA TORQUEMADA sect of Christ Insanity. That explains it.

To them Christ appears as a 20th century white man who owns a gun, doesn't like spanish people, spews hellfire and brimstone at anyone these bubba torquemada supporters don't like and oh helping the poor for them does not involve the federal government and them either. They surmise someone else will do that like libruls.

3. I'm always astonished by "they don't do it, why should we" arguments
about torture. Gee, I don't know, maybe because, like, we have some respect for human dignity and do not want to become the evil we're supposed to be fighting?

I guess she's cool with other countries torturing our guys to get info from them too.

I'm sure the immigration issue plays right into her inherent racism.

It always amazes me how many "Christians" seem to forget the Golden Rule.

If we torture people from their side, Ms. Baudoin, what do you think they'll feel justified in doing to OUR soldiers?

And BTW, Thompson is on his second wife. She's younger than three of his children! So for the family values folks, two marriages = fine, three marriages = bad?

These people make my head hurt...

How can anyone be so stupid that they delude themselves by believing complete garbage from other people? Even when its clear that the stuff they are being told is completely against their so-called faith?

22. One of the things Kevin Phillips discusses in American Theocracy
is that certain sects that (historically- and to this day) caught on the States have a weird deal about having to suffer for salvation.

Cutting to the chase, he seems to say that these people believe:

"If you mitigate the suffering, you cut off the salvation."

I'll have to say, that wasn't a very satisfying answer- but that particular portion of the book was meticulously- and originally researched.

21. There are so many reasons why torture is bad policy...
besides the dubious nature of the information torture typically yields, one of the most important reasons, at least IMHO, is the message "we will not torture your people, so you had better not torture ours, and if you do, expect retribution". It is not meant to play nice-nice with bad guys, it is meant to offer some protection to OUR guys. What is so hard to understand about that?

24. Actually very consistent with the kind of God such people believe in
Someone please explain to me how these devils can claim to be christian on the one hand, and then out of the other side of their mouths, they approve of every kind of evil GW Bush can come up with?

Selective reading of the bible? Stupidity?

Actually, Christians of the type that support GW * are typically fundamentalist Christians, who believe their God condemns to hell (where one is presumably tortured, or at least tormented, for all eternity) those who miss out on accepting Jesus Christ in this lifetime (for whatever reason), or who guess wrong by adhering to a religion other than Christianity.

So it is not at all surprising that fundamentalist Christians, who typically believe in a God with a character basically like that of Adolf Hitler, would tend to support * and approve of torture.

26. Actually, that's standard christianity (in America)
That's taught in the most liberal of churches. In fact, why on earth would anyone worship Jesus if it were just as acceptable to worship another God? What would be the difference?

My big problem is How on earth do they support stuff that is 100% opposite of their religion, and 100% opposite of what they were raised to believe? And they do it in the name of their religion. And they do it en masse. Like one huge herd of sheep.

Where are all the psychologists who ought to be out there studying (and commenting on) one of the greatest examples of mass self-delusion they are ever going to have a chance to witness.
