Howard Stern, yes Howard Stern calls out GOP hypocrisy on Craig, Vitters and Stevens
I know a lot of DUers hate Stern but when it comes to politics he gets it. He wants to know why Craig was forced to resign but GOPers are not calling for the heads of Stevens and Vitters.

1. Craig's crime took place in a public space where it could possibly affect others, Vitter's not. nt

it was too late to be prosecuted before he finally admitted what he did (with some help from Larry Flynt). He's a perverted worm, and should go, but politics takes precedence over principle, always.

16. Yes, this is a big part of the reason. But perhaps even more significant is the fact that,
in Craig's case, the Republican governor will appoint a Republican to take his place
until the next election, whereas in Vitter's state, there supposedly is no guarantee
as to whether the governor will appoint a Republican or a Democrat.

9. They're hypocrites all the way
The only real difference between Vitter and Craig is Kathleen Blanco - and the inability of the Dem Party to say a word about sexual escapades because Hillary won't have it interfering with her election.

2. Howard Stern is a useful person. He has a big soapbox and a lot of
people listen to him.

He's sort of the anti-Rush.

4. MSN's take
I remember hearing a bit of discussion on MSN at my father's house over the weekend. I don't think that their analysis is the whole story, but they made much of the fact that Craig will be replaced by another Republican, whereas if Vitter resigned he would be replaced by a Democrat because Louisiana has a Democratic governor.

13. Howard pushed for Kerry hard back in 2004,
he's definitely very anti-religious right, which is a good thing, but he has spoken somewhat favorably of Giuliani unfortunately...But he also likes HRC alot to....

17. naive with good intentions
Some of his comments are incredibly stupid and uninformed, but others are spot on. There are people on his staff who are feeding him good information, and the show routinely humiliates the one staff-freeper.

He recently discussed a re-run of an early 2003 show where he was supporting Bush and the Iraq war and he talked candidly about the cringe factor, about how wrong he was, and more importantly about how he personally felt betrayed by the lies he was told, that all of us were told. I think that resonated with his entire audience and was a really powerful 'from the heart' mea culpa. It gave everyone in his audience in a similar position the framework to accept and talk about their opposition to the war now.

You can dismiss the rest of the show, but it has its moments.

Plus he loathes Imus and Rush.

on the Monday following. He didn't have to. But he did. I found it very powerful. Howard is very much a work in progress, but who isn't?

20. Look at how much money he has
I think it would be hard to be a republican into money to go back on that. I have one cousin who is rich and has been a repub all her life, she still has swallowed the koolaid. At least Howard admits he was wrong about Bush.

My husband listens to howard every day, I can't stand the guy. Its got to be about money because Howard other that that is a very liberal person.

23. Yeah, I can't figure out why he praises some Republicans, namely Giuliani
Howard is strong pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, hates the religious right, etc....When Falwell died few months ago, he was not sympathetic at all, matter of fact, he echoed many things that we said here on DU after that creep died, LOL!...
