Does it even matter who wins anymore?
w has been driving into the ditch over and over for 8 years.
At every crossroad he took us in the wrong direction and didn't even care.
And yet.... things aren't all that bad. In the grand scheme of thing the USA is fine. Our prospects as a nation are bright.

Could it be that the nation is so big and so strong that even the most inept corrupt,dis- interested president can't hurt us very much at all? Its just beyond his reach to put it in the crapper?

Just a thought.

1. Yes.
If it doesn't matter who is picked, it would be because either no matter what they did, it was hopeless, or they would get it wrong no matter what. I don't believe either of these things is true yet.

2. Things are bad, the USA is not fine, and he has done damage,
severe damage to this nation, the ramifications of which will continue to unfold for decades.

Other than those minor quibbles, you're right.

I guess you don't see the things I see:

Baby boomers start retiring, pulling out of their investments - no one to buy them - stock market crash.

People selling their houses to make up the difference - no one to buy them - housing (price) crash.

Demands to pay off federal debt cancel all federal assistance for education, loans, etc, etc. - you have to be a high school 3.8/1250+ to GET INTO a public college...

Private insurance and pharmaceuticals continue to control the health market. Medicare gets scaled back - copays are like 50%. Most people have to sell their houses at fire sale prices (see #2) to make ends meet. Medical insurance goes to like $5,000 a month...

The "fair" national sales tax gets enabled, only at 35%, not the "sale" price of 20%. The money for which we earned and paid taxes on in our savings will be taxed yet again.

Foreign interests come and buy our bridges, toll roads, water / sewer systems, etc. run the facilities into the ground while charging us out the butt. The police are used to arrest people collecting water off of their roofs to avoid paying for the water (that happens in South America, if you think it can't happen)...

Supreme Court bans any kind of abortion a'la Dominican Republic...

All of our phone conversations, emails, etc are subject to arbitrary monitoring.

To prevent terrorism, posting to the internet must be pre-approved by AT&T.

...and the favorite food is... SOYLENT GREEN!

TV and music stay about the same. Can't get any worse than it already is...

6. And Bush/Cheney attack Iran
to insure we are stuck in the Mideast for two decades.

We are attacked before Bush leaves office, Blackwater is hired to maintain order in major cities, dissenters are moved to detention camps in U.S., and "TV and music stay about the same".
