Will Richardson be picked as the 2008 VP running mate?
Here is my theory:
Regardless of whether Clinton, Obama, Edwards, or (possibly even) Gore becomes the presidential nominee...I feel any of them could benefit from Richardson as their running mate. Richardson has a ton of experience and is from the West. The 2008 Democratic National Convention will be held in the Western state of Colorado...a state which borders New Mexico...the state where Bill Richardson is governor.

Here is a quote from Economist magazine shortly after the 2006 midterms:
"Republicans suffered big losses in a region that voted solidly for Bush in 2004—the Mountain West. Three Republicans lost house seats. Conrad Burns lost his Senate seat in Montana (59% for Bush in 2004). Democrats now control five of the eight governorships in the West, compared with none in 2000."

2. It's common knowledge that he's running for VP.
So is Biden.

It'll be interesting to see the reality.

10. Biden?
Biden has wanted to be SoS forever. I can't think of a worse pick. Talking about foreign policy is not that same as getting it right.

3. I think Gore/Richardson would be a great ticket
But so would Gore/Clark.

16. After watching him on the Logo debate, I've changed my mind
He really blew it. He thinks homosexuality is a choice. Now I have to find another second choice in case Gore doesn't run. I wish I could get behind Kucinich -- he has all the right answers all the time, but I really don't think he can be elected in the general. I just can't help seeing Dobby the house elf when I look at him.

4. no
I think, if it's Hillary, well, I don't know who she'd pick. If it's Obama or Edwards or Gore (please, please, please!), I bet it'll be a popular Dem female Governor (either past or present). Call it a hunch.

Edwards gives Obama nothing electorally. Nada Zilch...Dopes not hut but does not gain.

Clark has the Gravitas...but again no elecoral belefit.

Richarson Cinches New Mexico and maybe Arizona and put Florid in a "our's to lose column"

7. If HRC gets it, I hope she taps Edwards.
He's further left than Hillary is, and he provides the "ticket-balancing" of a Southerner.

30. Yeah, I like that too. I think John has toughened since 2004
He would have hammered Cheney this time around.

8. I have been thinking this for a few months now
That Richardson would get the nod for VP and I think he would be a good choice for Mr. Edwards when he gets the nod. :)

Biden wants it so bad he can taste it, but I have to wonder if his ginormous ego would let him take the bait if offered. That man lives for opportunities to be on camera and I don't know that any of the candidates would take an eventual backseat to Joe the Mouth.

Biden perhaps as SoS though.

11. I don't know about the others
...but I was told in June of 2003 that the 2008 ticket would be Clinton/Richardson. It makes sense in a DLC-NAFTA kinda way. Richardson helped Clinton push through NAFTA. More recently he supported the war and John Bolton.

12. Richardson would be a pretty smart pick.....
For most of the candidates. He could help to deliver some areas that just might be needed to put the Dems over the top. He's not my favorite for the job, because I tend to see the VP as the "President in training", i.e. I want him to take over in 2016, and Richardson isn't my favorite to do that otherwise I'd be voting for him THIS time around. Still, he's a good guy and I wouldn't hate the idea, plus he does add things to the ticket as you pointed out.

14. If Bill Richardson does not win the top spot on the ticket I think it
would be poor judgment for whoever does to fail to include him on the veep short list.

Richardson is a damned talented soul.

We need him as a high-level public official.

by stating that homosexuality is a "choice".

I can't imagine having a President OR A Vice President without a clue, AGAIN!

who thinks homosexuality is a choice and makes anti-gay comments in Spanish.

25. Erm... Maybe.
If it's HRC or Edwards, the Veep should probably be from the Mid-West (Obama, Vilsack, Clark(what state is he from?)) or the Rocky Mountain West (Richardson, Schweitzer).
If it's Obama, the Veep should probably be from the Rocky Mountain West.
