Is the "compromise" bill that much worse than the "timetable" bill?

Many here (and some in Congress) opposed the timetable bill because it did not immediately end the US presence in Iraq and I assume that the same people oppose the "compromise" bill for the same reason. But it seems like a number of people who would have viewed the timetable bill as a victory view the compromise bill as a complete defeat. I view the timetable bill as better than the "compromise" no-timetable bill since it would have started the process of withdrawing troops later this summer.But as a practical matter, troop levels in September would have remained high under the timetable bill (which doesn't call for complete withdrawal until the end of March of next year). The compromise bill only provides funding through September, so as a practical matter, a new vote could be taken by the end of the summer to set a timetable. In other words, it may be too early to know whethe there is that much difference between the two approaches (while obviously, neither approach compares to one that would cut off funding and require troops to be withdrawn now).

Whether it was a timetable bill or the current compromise, more are going to die. But some people seem to think one is appreciably better than the other and I'm trying to understand the analysis.

6. Compromise will be our undoing! Is

compromise better for the Democrats? What does it accomplish? Maybe they have some secret strategy to unveil at a later date but in the meantime more of our military and Iraqi citizens are being killed. Chaos after we leave? I can't imagine any more chaos than is there now.

I didn't like the optional timetable bill, either. But, the Idiot Dauphin vetoed that one, so he didn't get his money. If he signs this one, he gets his money.

As long as we sent him bills he vetoed, we put him in the position of defunding his own damned war.
