Source: Most Blue Dog Dems Will Back Short-Term Iraq Funding Bill
By Greg Sargent | bio

A senior Democratic aide tells us that the short-term Iraq funding bill is likely to get the support of at least as many conservative Blue Dog Dems that backed the last Dem House Iraq bill.

There's been some concern swirling in the blogosphere that many conservative Dems are preparing to bail on today's bill. So we checked in with a senior Dem aide to ask whether Dems are expecting to lose more Blue Dogs than they did last time. The aide writes: "Not any more than we lost before."

Last time 36 of 44 Blue Dogs voted with the Dem leadership. On top of that, the aide tells us that leadership may actually pick up two more who voted against last time -- Lincoln Davis and John Barrow.

That would bring it to 38 out of 44 Blue Dogs voting for the bill.

1. Let Us Hope, Ma'am, The Left-Most Elements Of the Party Hold As Firm
The enemy relies on disunity among our Party's factions. In the last crucial vote on this matter, almost as many peeled off from the left as from the right. This has got to stop: spread, seperate fingers are easily snapped; a closed fist strikes a powerful blow. Those on the left who vote against this Bill will deserve no more praise for it than those on the right who do so. Both should be condemned for lack of solidarity.

"We must all hang together, or assuredly we will hang seperately."

2. Yay! Another pointless gesture that Bush will veto.
The Dems need to do something substantial. Dennis Kucinich is on the right track, defund the war. Hold up each and every supplemental war funding bill in committee and force the troops home.

5. That's right folks!! Bush can only veto the bills that Congress passes
or he can sign them into law. He can't legally decide to bypass Congress.
