I've now heard 3 different centrist, libertarian type famous comedy guys indicate they'd vote Obama
Matt Stone (of South Park), Greg "Opie" Hughes (of the Opie and Anthony radio show) and Doug Stanhope (deplored along with Joe Rogan for his attempt to takeover the Man Show but a fairly respected standup comedian otherwise).

All 3 could be seen as being cut from a similar cloth. They're gen X guys with a degree of respect from the comedy world for what they do and enough success that they have somewhat of an influence on a niche of fans.

It's insane to me how many people don't see that Obama's appeal goes further right than Kerry's.

1. i think pretty much everyone realizes a democrat is going to win.
i think they are jumping on the most likely non-clinton bandwagon they can find.

3. All 3 indicated they respected him, it had nothing to do with a belief Democrats have a lock
I'm a partisan democrat and I don't think we have an overwhelming edge, atleast if its against Giuliani or McCain.

12. i think an overwhelming majority are fed up to overflowing with bushco and anyone who supports them.
and unless the republicans suddenly nominate someone normal, which they wont, they will need a good 15-20% vote rigging to make it work this time.
all of the republican front runners are a mess, just like the 28% that still supports bush and screwed up the republican party.

18. Even if we have a lock, we need to campaign as if it
was not a sure thing.

6. Hardly
Somehow I don't think chowderheads like Opie and Anthony are part of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy!

What this does show, though, is that for many people elections aren't really about ideology, but about a gut feeling. Obama comes across as a thoughtful and decent guy, someone who wants to do the right thing, regardless of the politics involved.

8. Actually, I'm not a newbie
I used to post under the nom de DU "FightinNewDem". During 2006, I took a sabbatical from the site while I briefly ran for Congress in NH-01, before dropping the campaign in early July due to some health issues. In the meantime, I changed internet providers and lost my old identity in the process!

Good to be back, though!

11. Isn't a libertarian type suppose to do and say things that will po as many
people as possible. To be the in your face 24/7. IMO this is very bad for Obama's appeal.

14. Um, it's a good thing to appeal to assholes like that?
Frankly, the endorsements of tools like Matt Stone and Opie Hughes make me want to run in the complete opposite direcetion. I wouldn't be trumpeting this as some big coup.

I like Obama, FWIW.

17. It's a good thing to appeal to a broad demographic in general
Sure, there will be assholes in the bunch. If we didn't win the votes of at least some assholes, we would never win an election.

Obama rejects the bullet point solutions. And the idea powerpoint plans that can solve any problem.
He comes from a perspective that is not just centrist but multi dimensional.
He is truly bottom up. He is fresh out of state politics into the congress and he has friends at every economic\social level.

His ideas are all about caring what the other person thinks and working thinks out. If you really take time to listen to him he sounds like a hippie! It makes partisans on both sides uncomfortable but, serious politicians who want to accomplish something, and people who want them to get over this fighting like it.
