Clinton ready to introduce Cold War medal bill, leading Russian lawmaker warns against it
Edited on Sun Apr-15-07 11:47 PM by draft_mario_cuomo
==The legislation would authorize the U.S. secretary of defense to issue the Cold War Service Medal to those who "performed active duty or inactive duty training as an enlisted member or commissioned officer during the Cold War."

"It is important that we not forget those who served during the Cold War, a decades long struggle in which the forces of freedom eventually triumphed," Clinton said in the statement.

The bill was met with less enthusiasm by Konstantin Kosachyov, chairman of the State Duma's Foreign Affairs Committee, who called the initiative "awkward and inappropriate."

"If Mrs. Clinton suddenly becomes president of the United States without abandoning such a mentality, it will not improve our relations," Kosachyov said, Kommersant reported Saturday.==

1. Incredibly dumb idea
Edited on Sun Apr-15-07 11:43 PM by Ignacio Upton
This would be like Britain or France issuing medals for military personnel who served between 1871 to 1914 in lieu of the arms race that led to World War I (and "scramble for Africa" was part of that arms race, BTW). Like the period between the Franco-Prussian War and WWI, the Cold War was an arms race, NOT an actual war. This is gross pandering on Hillary's part.

2. She can do this but not propose a bill on Iraq or universal health care?

More "leadership" on the important issues from HRC.

4. The emptiest of empty gestures.
This is not the kind of idea that will get the electorate fired up to vote for her. She may as well propose a "shiniest brass" medal.

5. This is a Joke, No?
Mrs. Clinton is reeling from the stunning failure of her "Resistance is Futile" strategy - but I cannot believe that she'd get this freaky.

Any corroberation?

7. Oh come on people!
You have to look at the big picture here. Not only is she trying to make the elderly take notice of her on this issue and then will drop the big one when she introduces Medicare reform....Oh, its beginning to look more and more like January 20, 2009.....

8. C'mon Hillary! We already got the Cold War Certificate back in 2001.
What is this woman doing, recycling Rumsfeld's ideas?

12. Thanks! Hey, my check's in the mail right now!
What a morale builder? I suppose I'll have to pin it to my shorts since you aren't really supposed to be wearing it on a uniform.
