Gingrich falsely stated that to become a citizen one must pass a history test in English
Gingrich says:
"Citizenship requires passing a test on American history in English. If that's true, then we do not have to create ballots in any language except English," he said."

Department of Ciizen and Naturalization says:

"Applicants for naturalization must be able to read, write, speak, and understand words in ordinary usage in the English language. Applicants exempt from this requirement are those who on the date of filing:

*have been residing in the United States subsequent to a lawful admission for permanent residence for periods totaling 15 years or more and are over 55 years of age;
*have been residing in the United States subsequent to a lawful admission for permanent residence for periods totaling 20 years or more and are over 50 years of age; or
*have a medically determinable physical or mental impairment, where the impairment affects the applicant’s ability to learn English."

1. If only one had to pass an English proficiency exam ...
... in order to assume the presidency of the United States, we wouldn't be where we are today.

5. Not to defend Newt , but I have heard him
he believes Immigrants should be required to take
a History test and pass it.

It is something he is recommending along with English
Immersion as opposed to BI-Lingual Education.
