Amazing...RW Talking Points about Hillary being Goldwater Girl posted here before MSNBC/CNN Got them
I'm not a supporter of Hillary Clinton for '08 but what was disturbing was that there were posts here talking about her being racially biased because of her Goldwater Girl Support of him when she was in College and then her "supposed mistatements" about being for Civil Rights which she quoted in a recent speech causing there to be a "contradiction" for her which the Right Wing Repugs duly noted.

One thing I know about Hillary is that she is very good friends with Leading African-American Women and has always had their support. They have always been with her and she has worked with them since her time in Arkansas.

Whatever I feel about Hillary...the fact that the RW was on this and fed it and people here posted about it and it's now on MSNBC and CNN shows the depths of trashing the Repugs will do to undermine ANY DEM CANDIDATE.

We Progressives who are disenchanted with the DLC and both Bill and Hillary shouldn't be playing into the hands of these RW'ers who put the Talking Points dissing the Clintons out on the Blogs and Liberal Websites to cause dissention amongst us.

We Progressives need to clearly state what our difference are with Hillary and Bill...and Civil Rights and what Hillary said or didn't say when she was a "Pup" shouldn't allow us to get distracted from the CLINTON POLICY...like NAFTA and MEDIA DEREGULATION that we REALLY SEE as FAILURES.

 We need to carefully Parse posts about our candidates...and stick to the issues that Progressive Democrats care about. I imagine our Hillary supporters would agree that the Right Wing is going to Swift Boat her...and even us on the Lefty Side of the Party should NOT SUPPORT RW TALKING POINTS AGAINS ANY DEM CANDIDATE!!!

5. And Goldwater was very pro-civil rights (except 64 act) - doesn't anyone have a memory?
Edited on Mon Mar-12-07 05:40 PM by papau
Goldwater supported the Arizona NAACP and was involved in desegregating the Arizona National Guard. Nationally, he supported the Civil Rights Acts of 1957 and 1960. However, he opposed the much more comprehensive Civil Rights Act of 1964; he argued that it unconstitutionally extended the federal government's commerce power to private citizens in its drive to "legislate morality" and restrict the rights of employers.

4. Which posts are the subject of your O.P.?
I have not seen anyone here using right wing talking points about Hillary Clinton. I am not saying that I don't believe you, but since you are making that charge --- which is a serious one --- can you please provide the links to the post(s) that you seem to have centered your entire O.P. upon.

I'm curious as to who is using right-wing talking points here at the DU and saying that she was "racially biased".

Thanks in advance.

6. What's wrong with that, we should ask
Senator Clinton grew up in a republican household during the Goldwater years. Of course, she was a Goldwater girl! Then she became a democrat.
When the right wingers try to smear her for once being republican you can see how desperate they are.

Many pro-choice republicans (prior to President Reagan being elected) were pro-Goldwater.
The republicans knew they could only win another election by embracing the fundamentalists. When Ronald Reagan came to the party he switched his pro-choice stance and agreed to axe the Equal Rights Amendment support from the party platform. Pro-choice republicans were either silenced or willingly left the party.

There was nothing wrong with Hillary once being a Goldwater girl.

This is similiar to President Bush holding up a "card" during his campaign with Dukakis and calling him a "card carrying liberal."

In the 1990's Barry Goldwater came out forcefully against the religious right. He was pro-choice and believed that gay people should have the right to serve in our military. Google Goldwater quotes on religion and you will see how much he hated religion in politics. Goldwater is the darling of the republican party.

Level them with their own history.

8. My post is about the "smearing of Hillary" for being a "Goldwater Girl"
and how I thought that was unfair. Did you read past the "Subject Line?"

7. Where is my friend "Wyldwolf" on this Issue...? He's a Big Hillary Supporter
and I want to hear him on this post where this LEFTY is SUPPORTING HILLARY against the Right WING!

Shouldn't "Wyld" be here applauding me...since we've had so many discussions about this. It's a true cause where Dems of all "stripes" and "cat herds" can agree on.
