Hillary DID NOT apologize for Ford's comment...
I was just listenting to CNN and heard Donna Brazille say that Hillary quickly tried to distance herself from SC State Senator Robert Ford's smear of Obama last week. Well, I live in South Carolina and I have been searching for ANY comments Hillary made and have yet to find anything, much less a denouncement of it. NOR did I hear Obama calling for Hillary to denounce the smear or call for his resignation as a 'consultant'. Ford was a bought and paid-for hitman who smeared Obama and not a word from Hillary about that. And yet she has the nerve to demand Obama return the money from a donor today??? What a hypocrite. SHE is the one who will run the dirty campaign. I just hope Obama will continue to stand firm when needed, as he did today, and continue to keep his head above the fray.

2. I just hope...
...the press covers it FAIRLY! When Hillary's 'consultant' smeared Obama you didn't see that all over the news. Now today...because Hillary is whining...it is THE story. That just makes me sick.

11. Hillary is whining AND she sent out some smarmy little
operative to attack and smear a private citizen for expressing his opinion. Plain and simple. That makes me sick.

22. really? Its whining when Hillary does it, but forceful when Obama does?
When Obama immediately countered his attacks, he was aggressive, and smart and forceful.

When Hillary immediately counters attacks she is whining and sends out smarmy attacks?

Hmmmm...is it because she is female?

4. A paid employee...
...and a campaign donor are two different things. If Hillary is calling for Obama to return the money, then shouldn't she be FIRING a paid employee ($250,000) who did much worse last week? Maybe you didn't read about that??? Obama owes no apology. HILLARY does. So she can shut up and quit whining.

7. Barack is my Senator
I never attacked him or his campaign team. I'm just saying regardless of your feelings about Hillary, this Gaffen fellow was bashing Bill Clinton moreso. How can Democrats defend this?

8. He is a donor...
He can say whatever the hell he wants to. No one is defending him, nor should anyone need to, especially not Obama. HILLARY just tried to stir this up to her advantage. She is whining because she lost one of her big donors to Obama. She will crash and burn. Dirty politics. America is SICK TO DEATH OF IT!!!

16. Geffen is a donor, not a spokesman
He can say what he pleases. I defend the First Amendment first and foremost. He wasn't asked to say what he did, nor was he paid for it.

As was pointed out in the OP, Clinton's hired NC consultant said some pretty outrageous things about Obama's candidacy.

If Geffen had been hired by the Obama campaign, an apology would certainly be in order. Instead, Clinton's campaign misrepresented Geffen's relationship and made it appear that Geffen was speaking on behalf of the Obama campaign. I have no doubt that this was a strategic move, rather than an accident. It might have created some serious problems for Obama, however, had his campaign not responded quickly. That's why Hillary's camp took the risk.

Hillary lost today's battle, but there will be plenty more to come.

Welcome to DU, BTW! :hi:

The backbiting 'anonymous sources' that have driven us crazy for the last 6 years have been from the Clinton people. They just make me sick sick sick.

13. Isn't it odd...
That to date in this campaign all of the smears in the media have been against Edwards and Obama, but we have heard nothing but gushing (from the Republicans!) about how Hillary is unstoppable? Why can't the rest of the Democrats smell a rat?

17. When you have aaswipes like Carville Le Turncoat in the huddle...
Edited on Wed Feb-21-07 11:09 PM by zulchzulu
...you can expect slime, dirt and chicannery coming from the campaign.

The one who needs to apologize is on Senator Clinton's payroll: James Carville Le Turncoat

That would be a start. And of course, I'll expect the chances of that happening as much as the reality that we won't see more smears from creeps like McAweful as well.

20. Ford did not "smear" Obama. He offered his opinion on Obama's electability.
Anyone who would call an elected official, "a bought a paid for hitman" without any supporting evidence, is guilty of smearing.

Now you know the difference.

open her mouth, listen to what she says from a Re:puke: POV. She is a fifth columnist working within the Party to destroy the Party's credibility (what little is left).

24. Hillary is not unattackable and some feel Ford's remarks were smears
The right is not going to attack Hilary because they are saving it if she becomes the nominee. They are not going to use all their ammunition now just for our Democratic primary. They will let us fight amongst ourselves until we choose a nominee.

Ford's comments had the potential to be damaging to Obama and that in itself constitutes a smear in my opinion. Obama's camp could have demanded she give take the same steps she's insisting Obama take. That's hypocrisy to me.
