New York Workers Claim Abuse
Washington, Feb 1 (Prensa Latina) More than 1,000 New York workers continue their demand against abuse by establishment owners from whom they want compensation of two million dollars.
Supported by the New York District Attorney s Office and unions, the employees denounced that their bosses paid them under minimum wage and forced them to work overtime without remuneration.
Edwin Durer, a clerk in a Broadway clothing store, told El Diario and La Prensa that while he was on the payroll, he only earned $5.50 an hour, when state legislation orders salaries above $6.75 an hour.
In December, a report by community organizations revealed working rights violations were a common practice in New York, especially against Latinos.
