i wonder if RFK Jr., who said he would be interested in running for Senate in NY if there was an opening, could sort of slip over the state line ...

who are the most likely candidates to replace Dodd for Senate?

Sen. Dodd Not To Run for Re-Election In 2010, Uses PAC to Buy NH and IA Voter Files

Sen. Christopher Dodd, through his counsel, has sent a letter to the Federal Election Commission stating he “is no longer a candidate in the 2010 election for the United States Senate in Connecticut.”

This letter helps set the stage for his Senate campaign committee, Friends of Chris Dodd, to declare it has excess funds and transfer the funds to his presidential campaign committee, Chris Dodd for President Inc. His Senate campaign committee reported $1,855,961 cash-on-hand as of 9/30. This amount will probably change with financial activity during the fourth quarter of 2006. His year-end report is due by 1/31/07.

1. 2010, not 2008; I can't even conceive of a likely candidate now. Hell,
people MOVE! :D

2. Doesn't mean Dodd can't run in 2010
This is purely a legal maneuver to convert his Senate fundraising money to Presidental fundraising money.

19. yep - and if he doesn't get the nomination - there is still plenty
of time to announce that he will run again. Its not like this is a binding/permanent move.

7. Rep John Larson, East Hartford Ct (my home town) would be a fine Senator from CT.

9. John is a very fine man; well respected; and very well positioned on key committees in the House.
John is very true in representing the middle working class he comes from. My parents knew his very well years ago. My younger sister went to school with him. I've been very proud to watch his progress and impact in D.C. It's great when a really good guy succeeds as a leader.

here's a section on "interest group ratings": http://votesmart.org/issue_rating_category.php?can_id=CCT71478

15. Would Agree, I am originally from E. Hartford and met with Mr. Larson
a couple of times over the last election cycle and think he would make a great Senator. Though he has been quietly moving up in leadership rolls in the House..

11. I'm a bit worried
Jodi Rell, a popular GOP governor, could be a top candidate after her term expires in 4 years. Lets hope Dodd changes his mind and is a shoe-in for reelection in 2010. I know one thing for sure-- We won't be seeing President Dodd any time soon.

12. Rosa DeLauro
If she doesn't have any plumb assignments in the House (does anyone know if she chairs anything), DeLauro is probably one of the few who could go toe-to-toe against Jodi Rell in 2010 for Dodd's U.S. Senate seat.

Is Rell term-limited from running for gubernatorial reelection in 2010?

17. Dick Blumenthal has been waiting for years.
I would imagine it's his for the asking. We will need another good Democratic candidate in 2012 to run against that piece of shit Lieberman.
