Around our house, we have a saying (well, one of many): "a little mortification is good for the soul."

Thought we'd have to mass mail boots to his Senate office to get rid of him or something. . .

7. We owe Allen a debt of gratitude
For starters, he gave the Dems control of the Senate. It wasn't all that easy for him to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, but he came through with shining colors. By playing to his base with shameful exhibitions of racist intolerance, he seemed to overlook the fact that he represented a very diverse state that is no longer a "stalwart" for the Old Dominion. For Allen, the "real" Virginia excluded those of differing cultures, religions, racial backgrounds, and values. Problem is, by excluding and alienating each of these basic human entities, he redefined himself as belonging to a minority that was no longer capable of victory. Finally, the spectre of Allen ever becoming President has evaporated forever. Had he never revealed his true colors, Allen may have gone on to be a viable contender. Thanks, George, for helping the right team win!

20. "Macaca" surely cost him more than 7,000 votes
One word caused a Senatorial seat and possible presidential race to be flushed down the toilet. Betcha he spit on his wife on Tuesday, too!

Years from now, folks will say "Did you hear what Sen. Dingleberry just said? For crying out loud, the fool just macaca-ed any hope he has for reelection"

8. They probably broke both his elbows twisting his arms
But this is great news. As every pundit has pointed out, we have to deliver now, often over Bush's dead body. The Dems should go after the low-hanging fruit fast: Get at the lobbyists (and steamroll anyone who says giving politicians thousands of dollars every month or two is "free speech" because the nation will NOW realize what a bunch of ridiculous garbage that is), get rid of earmarks altogether, pass a law that all legislation must be published for public comment at least a week before a vote apart from emergency resolutions, minimum wage hikes, and so on.

Then we should develop a clear, easy-to-understand list of priorities for more complicated stuff like healthcare reform, ending tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations, and so on. Let the repukes SCREECH, but get it out there in a clear, easy-to-understand list. Then get to work on it.

There's no point in opposing Gates, and actually, a lot of Dems like the guy. He has to be vetted, but we should approve him as quickly as possible to show we're moving on a solution.

We really have a historic chance to change this country for the better and for the long run. I am very optimistic that we're going to do that.

9. The longer he waits..
the larger the vote gap with Webb. By the mid-afternoon, he may look worse when the upated vote count gets close to 10,000. Might want to move up that start time so he can seem more conciliatory with such a "small" gap.

10. After The New Republic article came out
in April documenting Allen's lifelong love affair with the Confederacy and his racist past, you'd have thought he'd have remained on his best behavior through the campaign. But he just couldn't help himself. When he opened his big mouth and uttered "macaca" in August, people got a peek at the real George Allen - the racist bully under the folksy veneer. That's when the floodgates opened and people came forth to tell about their personal experiences with George Allen - and Virginians heard for the first time about a deer's head in a mailbox and repeated uses of the "n" word.

Ultimately Allen has no one to blame but himself. Rumors of his "racial insensitivity" had been floating around for years, but the mainstream whores were willing to give him a pass - until they couldn't ignore "macaca." Bye, bye George. The Senate will be a better place without you.

15. I'm Glad Gov. Kaine Was Around To Ensure This Vote Wasn't Tampered With
Believe Me When I Tell You, The Only Reason Allen Is Down The Road Is Because We Have Democratic Gov. Kaine & Electioneering Was Not Allowed. The Republicans Sealed Macaca's Fate When They Ran Kilroy, Or Killjoy Whatever That Fools Name Was....

16. Call me cynical, but....

Did anyone else see the story this morning that said something to the effect that senior GOP officials were trying to convince Allen to concede within the next few days? I can't remember where I saw it; I should have saved it, but was in a hurry to get to work.

Anyway, my first thought was, "hangonna minute here... why would "senior GOP" officials be giving up their last chance of control of the Senate so easily?

As I said, call me cynical, but these are the same people who pulled off Florida 2000.

What's in it for them, to make them give in so easily this time?

26. Damage Control
They want this story to be "old news" by the time the FBI investigation of their dirty-trick phone calls starts nailing some of Allen's little trained minions for impersonating election officials.

28. I'm listening live on Randi...
The Hillbilly Bear's thanking God, his wife (whom he doesn't beat or spit on), his children (whom he doesn't hang over Niagara Falls), his mother (who makes great ham sandwiches), John Warner (twice the man he'll ever be), his staff (who must be scared to death of him), the Virginia Republican Party (who are wondering how the hell he blew this one).

Now he's using a metaphor about wind and trees (blowhard, limp boughs)...the Bible (which he apparently can't touch without it BURNING,
BURNING)...and congratulating Jim Webb (the Senate is now officially Democrat).

And Randi says THAT'S ENOUGH of the Hillbilly Bear.

"Shut up, go home, and lower your Confederate flag to half mast. You are now on the breakfast menu, you are TOAST!"

Buh-bye, Macaca!
