Color New Hampshire purple. Or maybe even lilac.

Political newcomer Carol Shea-Porter was last night's big story. Narrowly beating out Republican incumbent Jeb Bradley, Shea-Porter walked away with the 1st Congressional District seat in yesterday's elections.

The Democrat from Rochester, known as "The Lilac City," is the first woman New Hampshire has ever sent to Congress.

In another upset, U.S. Congressman Charles Bass, the Republican incumbent, lost to Democrat Paul Hodes in the 2nd Congressional District.

That means the Granite State is sending two Democrats to Congress at the expense of two GOP incumbents.
