Lamont closes the gap in CT
There is a word on the internets about a new Rasmussen premium poll:

Lieberman at 48%
Lamont at 40%
Schlesinger at 9%

This is good news as Schlesinger's numbers go up and Joe's numbers go down. I still think Schlesinger will end with low teen numbers. Some of the republicans are coming home and it is hurting Joe.

Another thing to have in mind is that Lamont team is confident their GOTV is worth 5 points. So, if the race is a 5 or 6 points race, they think they have quite a good shot.

3. I still believe Lamont is going to win..
I think much of Lieberman's support is predicated on significant Republican and Independent support. I don't think he has it or will get it...

9. and more Independents are AGAINST the Iraq war. I think corpmedia has
been OVERreporting Joe's support while UNDERreporting Lamont's strength on the ground and we have seen the results of that tactic in the past.

DON'T TRUST MEDIA. Listen to the Lamont team on the ground.

34. Here's my report from the ground:
I canvassed this afternoon, and not one single person I spoke with had one single good thing to say about Lieberman. Oddly, most of them initially said they were undecided, but once I got them thinking out loud...

Incidentally, I was in my own neighborhood, a poorer section of New London, 2nd District. I had to pester my local Lamont HQ for a walklist of this neighborhood, which they hadn't planned on canvassing. But I know my neighbors, and I knew I could sway them--including the 75 year old Republican living next door.

Note to anyone canvassing: it helps a lot to be able to begin your spiel with, "Hi, I'm your neighbor Laura, I live over on XXXX St." I didn't have a single person refuse to talk with or listen to me.

10. I think it will be very interesting to watch by district.
In the 1st and 3rd, where Dem. congresspeople are basically running unopposed, I wonder if Republican turnout might be low. Rell seems to be heading back into office (why?). Might they feel more comfortable not bothering there?

OTOH, the 2nd, 4th, and 5th will have big congressional fights, so I imagine turnout from both parties will be high.

Just my guesses. Goodness knows what's really going to happen.

13. I just found out that Wes Clark's ad stating that Joe introduced the bill to go to Iraq
and doesn't want to "change the course" was spotted during the NY
Giants football game today. Now does anybody know if the citizens of Connecticut are NY fans or New England fans? My guess is that they would be NY fans.

Anyway, this may have been an eye-opener to many. It also probably means that Ned is committing a lot of his own money to this.

Go Ned! :applause:

41. I believe after Bob Kraft tried to screw CT, CT tends to favor NY
It's certainly not universal, but after the owner of the Patriots lied about moving the team to Hartford (documents showed up in a court case showing Kraft's plans to stay in Foxboro), it pissed off a lot of people in CT. (BTW, after noticing where you're from, it should be noted plenty of people are still pissed about the Whalers. Grudges against both owners will last a long time.)

The local TV stations are a mixed bag if you're looking for evidence of favorites there. WFSB, the local CBS affiliate which gets the AFC games, will choose the Patriots' games to broadcast over the Jets' games during scheduling conflicts. However, if the Patriots are on the NFC broadcast schedule, the Fox station, WTIC, will go with the Giants' game during conflicts.

22. I would hardly say that is closing the gap. If that were so we can claim
Pederson is winning in Arizona because he has only a five point gap. I do hope all this is wrong and Ned is way ahead.I want Ned to win but this isn't looking good. Conn. better get off their hind ends and GOTV to the GOP.I think Conn has got to get the GOP to realize that if they vote for Joe is is a vote for the GOP and if they want change vote Lamont. The GOP who want change shouldn't vote for Joe and their are planty of fed up GOPers.

28. Even so.We have a libertarian in our race who a lot of Repugs say they are
supporting. Looks like he could pull almost as many votes as the Conn. Republican. I stand by my comparison. This isn't anything to be thrilled with yet.But let us hope the tide will turn.

40. Either that or pollsters "adjust" their lies to the real projections
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 09:25 AM by robbedvoter
I am expecting Quinnipiac to come with a Lamont surge/dead heat poll any day now - it's how they tried to manipulate the election in the 2000 Hillary race (more races, I'm sure - but THAT I remember - high hopes for Lazio through October, than inexplicable reversal 2 days before election...
I agree with blm on the overreporting on Joementum.
Not unlike they all made Nader look relevant in 2004 - when in fact there were other third party candidates threatening W with higher numbers than good ol' Ralphie's.

42. Again with this Lazio lie and Quinnipac
"but THAT I remember - high hopes for Lazio through October, than inexplicable reversal 2 days before election..."

Peoples memories are faulty because polls from Q showed Lazio within 3 pts on only one poll, all others Q polls had her 7 pts or higher from Sep. to Oct.

The Q poll maybe indeed be an outlier but one should actually prove that rather than made up bullshit about motivations and bias because the polls don't show what one wants them to.
