Democratic-leaning special interest group VoteVets, which was behind a dramatic body armor ad used to some effect in several Senate races, has now made ad buys in four House districts to complain that the Republican incumbents haven’t done enough for Iraq war veterans.
The new ad features Tomas Young, an Iraq war veteran and anti-war activist who was paralyzed from the waist down in Baghdad. Young has been an outspoken activist, particularly for veterans rights, and in this ad, he takes lawmakers, including Minnesota Republican Rep. Gil Gutknecht, to task for voting a pay raise for themselves but not increasing health-care benefits for veterans.
According to Daily Kos, a similar version of the ad will also run until Election Day in the districts of Republican congressmen John Doolittle in California, Jon Porter of Nevada and John Sweeney in New York. The ad hasn’t shown up yet on the group’s Web site yet.
