MSNBC: "Nearly all Americans can appreciate" Schwarzenegger's comeback
Arnold's turnaround
A year after embarrassing defeat, Schwarzenegger cruising to re-election

WASHINGTON - If there's one storyline that nearly all Americans can appreciate, it's the comeback.

We see it in our films ("The Natural," "Star Wars"), our sports (the 1992-93 Buffalo Bills, the 2004 Red Sox), our history (the Texan victory after the Alamo, the Pacific theater in World War II), and -- especially -- our politics.

Take Harry Truman's come-from-behind victory over Thomas E. Dewey in the 1948 presidential election. Or Richard Nixon's two presidential wins in 1968 and 1972, after losing his 1960 bid and his race for governor two years later. Or the political triumphs by the ultimate Comeback Kid -- Bill Clinton -- after Gennifer Flowers, his administration's health-care debacle, and his impeachment.

Come next month, however, Clinton might need to share that title with Republican California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. In what has to be the political turnaround of the (very young) century, Schwarzenegger -- who went down to spectacular defeat in his special election last year and saw his poll numbers plummet as a result -- seems poised to easily win re-election.

1. Ummm... no
He waisted so much time and money on that stupid election that no one wanted and that got him nowhere. Now he's trying to suck up to "the people" when in reality, he wants something quite different.

We need a governor who believes in himself and in what he is doing! Ahhnold isn't even a good enough actor to pull off the role of governor!

21. More lies from the Pre$$titute$
OK, what has this worthless steroid junkie truly accomplished:

1) Let Enron off the hook, which is precisely what his masters Ken Lay, Richard Riordan and the sleazy rancid Michael Millken wanted.

2) Raised tuition to put college out of the reach for even more kids, so they are forced into the army and sent to Iraq to die.

3) Vetoed Single-Payer to assure his insurance company pals that they can still pimp on the misery of the masses.

4) He's still committed to destroying the California Public Employees Retirement system.

5) He sneaks Diebold machines back to count votes.

The only good thing coming out of this is that bastard is term-limited and he cannot stick his nose in the reapportionment cycle.

9. The left-leaning SACRAMENTO BEE just endorsed him.
Let's be real. That's bad news, combined with the L.A. TImes endorsing him!

I must say Angelides does nothing for me, besides put me to sleep.

Of course, I'll still be voting for him over that lying Gropinator.

10. Of course it's bad news
What were they supposed to do when all Democrats did was complain about Angelides?? No campaign can overcome a bunch of sour grapes in their own party who refuse to say a good thing because their own candidate lost.

25. Nonsense
He supports all sorts of things DUers support, Regulate HMO profits, large employer health care, Net Neutrality, juvenile diversion, mental health and drug treatment instead of prison, disaster preparedness, he even supports gay marriage. There's no reason to be bashing this guy, except he doesn't look like a manly man so our balls and spine grassroots show who really doesn't have the balls and spine.

26. Don't get me wrong, I vote for him in the primary
and will again. He would make a fine governor, But his campaign was Useless for someone with little name recognition. It is Stupid to not answer negative attack ads- Phil took a page from Kerry and took a vacation after the primary in the middle of Groper's 35million attack. Shades of Gray davis' anti recall campaign. Then they relied on those Bush=Arnold ads of dubious value. Trash the motherfucker like he's trashing you!Show up at a picket line or somrthing Phil, try to grab a headline if they won't cover the campaign. Someone here said it makes kerry's
campaign look like a well oiled machine

29. Then go fight for your candidate
I don't care what the campaign is or isn't doing. The people who voted for him need to get out there and fight for him. Four years is too long to suffer because you don't like the guy's campaign.

16. CA election is parallel to 1966 Maryland Gubernatorial campaign
In 1966 a little known GOP Candidate running for Governor of Maryland realized he couldn't get the average Conservative voter's support. This was because a Segregationist namem Mahoney had somehow won the Democratic nomination.

So the only way for this small timer to win the GOP votes was to run as a "Liberal" Republican.

And it worked: Maryland elected the most corrupt governor in it's history and he only lasted TWO YEARS in his job.

Give up? It was Spiro Agnew.

Moral of the story: Do NOT ever vote for any Republican in a general election.

Schwartzeneggar's campaign perfectly mirrors Agnew's of 1966.

Don't be fooled.
