not all of them need a picture to get the message across. Iow, those that are text only would be better as just a text sig line. Also, most of them would have a much smaller file size(dial-up friendly) if they were gifs rather than jpgs.

For example, this gif version of the jpg above is one third the size and will download 3 times faster:



Jpgs may be the best choice if the text were anti-aliased (no jagged edges).
