Keith Olberman Death Threat treated as joke by NY Post's Paula Froelich

Olbermann death threat powered letter made fun of by Murdoch’s NY Post
Posted on Crooks and Liars By: John Amato @ 11:05 AM - PDT
What would the conservative media be saying if Limbaugh was sent a letter like this? The NY Post: "POWDER PUFF SPOOKS KEITH"

Keith Olbermann flipped out when he opened his home mail yesterday. The acerbic host of "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" was terrified when he opened a suspicious-looking letter with a California postmark and a batch of white powder poured out. A note inside warned Olbermann, who’s a frequent critic of President Bush’s policies, that it was payback for some of his on-air shtick. The caustic commentator panicked and frantically called 911 at about 12:30 a.m., sources told The Post’s Philip Messing. An NYPD HazMat unit rushed to Olbermann’s pad on Central Park South, but preliminary tests indicated the substance was harmless soap powder. However, that wasn’t enough to satisfy Olbermann, who insisted on a checkup. He asked to be taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where doctors looked him over and sent him home. Whether they gave him a lollipop on the way out isn’t known. Olbermann had no comment.

edit: to clarify John Amato is NOT the NY Post reporter. The author was Paula Froelich. C&L provided this at the end of their story:
Here’s a public email if you want to send Paula your thoughts [email protected] (please show more class than Paula)

It isn't.

2. Murdoch is shit! He should be deported back to where he came from!
With that said, I hope all of us who are not on the right side of the aisle own some firearms. We need to protect ourselves from Koulterkrowd!

23. Worst part of it is that the NY POST RECEIVED ANTHRAX LETTERS in 2001
Remember, one of the anthrax letters from 2001 went to the NY Post.

See, they reacted very differently when it was one of their own getting anthrax.
They laugh it off and ridicule it when it's a more liberal colleage.

Despicable behavior on the past of Paula Froelich.

pseudo attempt (I predicted it would happen), but what I am surprised and dismayed about is the distain for this treatment by an American Newspaper. How dare they!

6. The us versus them is so entrenched that even death threats are ok
Mr Amato has so dehumanized those who disagree with him that it is actually ok to threaten a life. And the reasonable response to a death threat is treated with disdain. He is a lemming nodding his head in agreement when Bush tells him to hate.

This hate and division has gone too far.

8. It wasn't John Amato's story...
Amato runs the site Crooks and Liars which posted about the NYP's story. This thread was started with a cut and paste from his site, so it looks like John Amato wrote the Posts' story.

7. Wonder why it took so long. The country is full of crazies.
The same people who love Bush seem to love guns also. I am sort of shocked the country has been so still after living during Vietnam and the Civil Rights thing.

Some RW fuck tricks a guy into thinking he's been infected with a deadly disease and the NY Post cheers him on.

I bet Paula would think it would be really funny if someone showed up at her home fired a bunch of blanks at her. I mean after all, making someone think they are about to die is funny!

25. It's Fed jurisdiction: use of US mail, terrorist threat, CA postmark.
Edited on Wed Sep-27-06 04:31 PM by Garbo 2004
Not quite the funny "prank" the Post apparently wants to make it out to be. People have been sent to Fed pens for five years for just one such "prank."

The Post staff would have us believe that they themselves would have no concern, would not call authorities to check it out or seek medical attention after "preliminary tests" if they received a similar letter. Only someone who "panicked" would do so in the Post's eyes apparently.

And he should get an anthrax vaccination. Cover all the bases, Keith. It wouldn't hurt for NBC to hire someone to watch out for the guy. He said quite a few months ago that he was being followed in NY.

21. my letter to Paula
Ms. Froelich:

I'm writing to tell you that someone is apparently publishing drivel under your name! I'm certain that you will not want to be thought capable of such sloppy, weak writing and poor attempt at innuendo. We all know that Americans expect more of our journalists and commentators than this particular bit of writing reveals, and I'm hoping you can track down the culprit who published this under your byline, or at least have it corrected to reflect the truth. 22. Insensitive bastards! Remember, a NY Post journalist received anthrax
Edited on Wed Sep-27-06 03:56 PM by Julius Civitatus
back in 2001.

The NY Post, of all publications, should be responsible enough to take any anthrax threat seriously. Unfortunately, most of the people at that publication are a bunch of rabid, vicious freepers with no bounds in their hate for all things Democratic or liberal.

I just can't believe they are laughing off a death threat against a professional colleage. OK, I forgot, he is not a rabid winger like them.

They are despicable. Horrible, horrible human beings.

hit a nerve. Maybe a bigger one than we thought.

I'd suspect someone tied in some way to rove. They DO like to silence their critics, after all.

And btw, even if it isn't tied in some way to rove, I'm gonna do everything I can think of to move that as a rumor.

john gibson whines that we're roughnecks fighting dirty? He ain't seen NOTHING yet. What putzes like him are really whining about is their discomfort that they see their own dirty pool played back at them, coming back into their faces (when by "rights" it should be going in the other direction - from them to US). Typical bully behavior. They sure can dish it out, but they can't take it.

from scaring Olbermann? Not that it'd affect what he does on the air. But somebody somewhere (PSSST: check rove's rolodex) is probably hoping maybe, just maybe...

ALWAYS consider - WHO BENEFITS?

29. Go ahead and send the lollipop too just to have all the bases
covered. She's a stupid ass. I can't believe anyone would even think to joke about this. It would all be different if it was her or someone from her paper. I've thought for a while that Keith needs protection. He's getting too close to the truth for this cabal occupying the White House.

32. More class? I don't know...but here's what I wrote her:

Paula,

I read your Kieth Olberman piece yesterday.

I read Olberman's response to you today.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

If what Olberman's asserting is true, then you should probably be in
jail.

No. You're not funny. Anthrax is not funny. Neither is obstructing
justice in an ongoing investigation of somebody who at the very
least was making terrorist threats.

You're a lousy excuse for a citizen, and if you call yourself a
Christian, then you don't know what the word means.

It's not possible that you're Jewish, because nobody in my tribe could
possibly be so totally stupid.

I don't often give in to the temptation to think of somebody as a bad
person, but sister, you qualify.

Dave
