"Bush draws fewer viewers with latest speech" (4.7 M less than 2006 SOTU)

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Nearly 37 million people tuned to watch President Bush's speech from the Oval Office marking the fifth anniversary of the September 11 attacks on Monday.

The data, tallied late Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research, included the four broadcast networks plus the three cable news channels. It was well below the president's speech to a joint session of Congress in September 2001, right after the attacks, when 82 million people watched. It was also behind the 2006 State of the Union Address, which averaged 41.7 million viewers.

ABC's telecast of the 9 p.m. EDT speech, which interrupted the conclusion of its controversial "The Path to 9/11" miniseries, drew far and away the most viewers with 11.3 million. NBC's coverage had 6.5 million viewers while Fox Broadcasting Co.'s averaged 5.4 million viewers. The CBS data couldn't immediately be determined.

On cable, Fox News Channel was the clear winner with 2.6 million to CNN's 964,000 and MSNBC's 511,000.

bull. people left it on while they went to the bathroom, grazed at the refrigerator and walked the dog, like a very long commercial (which it was).

5. We are not listening,
Mr. Squatter. Some of us never did.

Sometimes I wonder how this opportunity was presented to him. What was he promised? To be the jerk in chief for 8 years? He bought whatever proposition. Not as easy as leading a bleacher full of Yalies, eh?

6. Oh, how sweeeet. He has a photo of his beloved twins behind him.
You know, the twins he once referred to as "a pain in the ass."

He never, ever stops using people to promote his image. Desperation sucks, doesn't it, Little Boots?
