Once Repubs return to Washington on Sept 5th, will they caucus...?
to discuss their strategy for the next two months? The last time they caucused, they made the decision to support Bush all the way on the war and to paint the Democrats as "cut and runners"? But their fortunes have gone downhill since then. Perhaps they need to re-evaluate their situation?

What do you suppose will be their new strategy? Will they go back to talking up the economy and bragging about how much the deficit has been cut? Will they talk about cutting more taxes?

In my opinion, they will use the new "Joe Lieberman" strategy. They will tie their fortunes to Joe Lieberman, rather than George W Bush. They will use Lieberman as proof that most of the other Democrats are out of touch and Lieberman agrees with them that we need to be "strong" in the war on terrorism. Their new strategy will hae the double effect of convincing some doubting Republicans about the continued war on terrorism and will, at the same time, hope to divide the Democrats - not just in Connecticut but nationwide. That would be my guess.

1. Well, they have decided to hold the vote on Bolton
the first week the get back. The vote in the Seante Foreign Relations Committee is scheduled for 9/7 (Next Thursday.)

IF they are scheduling that for right away, then the floor vote should be the next week. That seems to indicate a desire to continue the in-your-face foreign policy choices they have made.
