2. Sorry
But its a video from a journalist who video documents Hugo Chavez and the Venezuelan people during the coup.

And could you please clarify for me what you mean when referring to me as "you people"? That implies to me that you feel you're above me. Now if anything here is fascists, that type mentality is more consistent with fascism now isn't it?

Now please re-frame from unwarranted inflammatory language. Thank you...

4. I don't know what was meant
by the termonology "you people"

but I do understand the frustration when a thread title is interesting but all one gets when clicking through is a link to a video. Some of us on dial-ups or otherwise have problems with video links feel kind of cheated when just a video link is provided and the topic is not discussed.

I would like to know what was in the video and whether is was a hit piece or an informative piece. Does it show the US involvement? Why did you say WOW?

10. Thanks, Robbien! You definitely speak for me.
I'm on dial-up, too. No choice in the matter, I live in the boonies where dial-up is the ONLY option. I simply cannot load videos, it's just too time-consuming -- and most of the time, my primitive dial-up connection just cuts out long before a big file can load.

It is extremely frustrating to be pointed to a video link with no further elaboration regarding its content.

3. The American Plane
The video cut off before they told us about the plane that had landed where Chavez was being held prisoner. Let me guess, Bush had sent a plane to pick up Chavez and make double sure he caused no more trouble for them. What happened to the guy who declared himself the head dictator?

8. thanks for the link
I heard about the video, but appreciate the link on google.

A good lesson on how the rightwing will attempt to legitimize itself following an illegal power grab, aka coup d'etat.

They will shameless state lies to the public via TV, radio, newspapers.

They will attempt to control the mass media ASAP.

Mao's old adage, 'politics flows from the barrel of a gun', is pretty much self-evident here. Whoever has the loyalty of the armed forces, that will be a deciding factor in the outcome of a coup.

The truth is that this rightwing coup in Venezuela backfired on them, and Chavez is in a stronger position. In one sense, the anti-Chavez was a "paradigm shift" from the standard Latin American models of military coups. All the old rules no longer applied. You can no longer make a sudden power grab with a little money (bribery), guns and the ever-essential diplomatic support from US. In fact, being against the US government, anti-capitalism, but not against the US people, is a good way to maintain political support in Latin America today.

20. It's probably the best political documentary I've ever seen.
It's up there with Llumumba: Death of a Prophet and Thin Blue Line.

12. OK
I just finished watching the whole video (parts 1 -4). This is a very good video about Venezuela's coup attempt. I hope others enjoy watching it. :)

I like this part of Hugo Chavez's speech at the end of part 4.

"The most important thing I want to say to you is....go back to your homes. We need calm. Those of you who oppose me - Fine, oppose me! I wish I could change your minds. But you cannot oppose this constitution. This is the people's book. It's like the "Popol Vuh", the book of the Mayas. The (Popol Vuh) book of the community. You have to recognize this." --Hugo Chavez

16. Don't know how fluent you are in Spanish...
But I would say that best bet if you aren't that fluent is the 1.3 gig version, its a HUGE single movie, a BIG download, but the smallest that makes the subtitles easy to read. Unfortunately I'm not fluent in Spanish(Took French, who knew! :)) and I can SOMETIMES understand Spanish if I'm talked to like I'm a 2 year old, other than that, forget it.

Do you know what those people used to pay for gas? .25 cents a gallon! Maybe Halliburton can move in and help them out, if our troops can stand guard for a few more tours in a new locale!

24. When I lived in Ireland in the mid 1990's
I became aware of the breadth and depth of the documentary film tradition there. What a wonderful job these filmmakers did in spontaneously reacting to such dramatic events. They were there to do a documentary about Chavez, but had no idea they would be immersed in such chaotic circumstances. It's quite a testament to their skill and experience that they were able to provide us with such a "wow" documentary.

25. Somebody help me out re: Hugo.
Yesterday, I got into it with a relative who says Hugo is "big into the drug trade." My response was that the entire northern part of the continent is awash in drug trade and that even if Hugo is looking the other way regarding narcotics trafficking, it is no worse than any right-winger that would be leading there. Anyway, I know you can't disprove a negative, but I am going to see this relative this weekend and wondered if there is some hard information to debunk his nonsense.

It's impossible to bebunk a rumor.

29. maybe this will help:
First of all, i agree with Bridget; it's just a rumor until your relative presents evidence. Why would you need evidence if he does not?

On the topic of "entire northern part of the continent being awash in drug trade":

Plan Colombia - Cashing-In on the Drug War Failure
http://www.chomskytorrents.org/TorrentDetails.php?TorrentID=1254
http://www.plancolombia.org/
20 years of drug-wars in the Andes have actually increased cocaine imports to the U.S.
Could there be ulterior motives to a plan focused on beefing up the local military and spraying coca-fields in rebel-held parts of the country when coca is grown all around Colombia?
Featuring Noam Chomsky, the late Senator Paul Wellstone, U.S. Members of Congress John Conyers and Jim McGovern, and many others.
