Holocaust denier running a close race in Alabama
Darby is a Holocaust denier who has also expressed sympathy for white supremacists. He is a Libertarian attorney who is running as a Democrat against the DA from Mobile County. AP hasn't called this one yet.

1. How incredibly sad...
...even sadder is how many people support him and probably his ideas on the Holocaust. Things are going to get worse as time progresses and does what Hitler didn't do.

9. For me...
...sometimes "sad" means disgusting. In this case, it means that, in sorts, but mainly I use it in the sense of "pitiful." The very idea that a Holocaust denier could even get that much support is mystifying to me.

11. You'd be surprised.
You say, "I'd like to ask these deniers WHERE THE F*** ARE ALL THOSE PEOPLE." Believe it or not, many of them have "answers." What is really sad is that Holocaust denial or minimization is on the rise, and it is not just with the traditional anti-Semites. Soon, all those who survived will pass on. What will happen then? The fact that revisionism is already an issue and there are people to tell the stories, what happens when all those with first-account knowledge are gone?

15. I don't know how the Spielberg project is going...
...I should look it up and find out. I have a hard time watching those type of things. My partner made me watch Schindler's List, and I cried for two hours after the movie was over! Sad, huh? :)

I have never met a full-blown denier, but I have met a few who think it is a "Jewish plot for sympathy," and "is an over-blown issue." You say you'd kick their ass, my guess, you'd be so shocked that you would be in danger of getting lockjaw! It is as bad as those who think slavery was actually good for Black Americans. Now THOSE people, I have met!

Sometimes, I have a hard time believing we live in 2006, when I see racism and bigotry as rampant as it was in 1006!

16. oh you must hear my Schindler's List story
Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 04:41 AM by Skittles
I saw it shortly after moving up here to North Texas......I went on a date, we went to see that movie and there were SKINHEADS DEMONSTRATING OUTSIDE THE THEATER. I was absolutely horrified and asked myself WHAT THE F*** KIND OF PLACE IS THIS??? Thankfully, 13 years later I can honestly say I've never seen another incident like it. OMG I spent a good part of that movie with my fist pressed to my face in utter horror; to this day I cannot bring myself to watch it again.

I know what you mean, I have had people say to me THEY NEED TO GET OVER IT. Oh damn THEY BETTER NOT EVER GET OVER IT, NONE OF US SHOULD.

4. I can't believe 46% of Democrats voted for a damn Nazi
This will reflect very poorly on Democrats in Alabama to outsiders.

6. Open primary?
If so, maybe Darby was getting some votes from Republicans who wanted to pump up a weak "Democrat."

7. yes
When you vote, they ask if you want a Democratic ballot or a Republican one.

8. I doubt many people were aware of those views
I only became aware of them about a week ago. And I'm a voracious consumer of news.

I always knew Darby as the guy from the Atheist Law Center.

12. article
A surprise in the attorney general primaries was the performance of Darby, an atheist in the heart of the Bible belt who has proclaimed that the Holocaust did not happen. He was running a surprisingly close race against Tyson, a former state school board member who has been district attorney since 1994.

University of Alabama political scientist William Stewart said he thought many voters did not know much about either Tyson or Darby.

"I don't think this represents an endorsement of his extreme views," said Stewart.

A 24-year-old voter in Clanton Tuesday, Bianca Johnson, enforced Stewart's view. She said she voted for Darby over Tyson, but knew nothing about either candidate.

Darby's views prompted state Democratic leaders to condemn his stands as offensive.

BTW, I had Dr. Stewart for a couple of classes when I was in college. He's a nice guy.
