Rollcall: Pelosi Pushes 'Net Neutrality', Irks Telecoms
Edited on Wed May-10-06 09:26 AM by Rose Siding
via Atrios-

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is drawing the ire of telecommunications giants after she came out against them in a fight between corporate titans of long-standing importance to Democrats — and encouraged her party colleagues to fall in line behind her.

The battle — over the relatively obscure issue of "net neutrality," which concerns whether and how the federal government should regulate the Internet — pits cable and phone industry giants against tech heavies such as Google, which is based in Pelosi's home turf of the Bay Area, as well as an array of consumer groups.

That the debate has turned partisan is angering cable and phone-friendly Democrats, who accuse Pelosi of trying to impose her personal views on the party.

"She's taking this bill personally. It's a constituent issue for her, and she's generalized it into a Caucus issue," said a senior aide to a Democrat on the Energy and Commerce Committee.

Well-said. Any Democrat who is in bed with these huge conglomerates ought to be keel-hauled!

4. Nancy, pick a side
I appreciate you coming out to help us on this issue, but then you are also supporting Hayden for DCI which shows you as completely clueless and a Vichy Dem. We need a CONSISTENT liberal we can rely on. Sucking up to the Net Roots won't save you since you keep sucking up to BushCo as well

8. AH!
That the one. Thanks. My mistake.

Of course Pelosi still has a long track record of spinelessness.

6. No- she isn't supporting Hayden.
MR. RUSSERT: So you would vote against Hayden if you had the opportunity?

REP. PELOSI: I don’t have the opportunity, but I would, as I say, raise a serious question.

MR. RUSSERT: If you were senator, you would urge your Democratic senators from California to vote against him?

REP. PELOSI: Well, I, I don’t—as I say, until some of these questions are answered, I don’t think it’s a good appoint—I, I’ve worked with General Hayden over the years. I don’t think it’s a good appointment to the CIA. He may be good for something else, but not for the CIA.

Oh, really? So we're suppose to think that Pelosi is doing this to satisfy a constituent?

Why not write: "...pits cable and phone industry giants, like AT&T which is based in President Bush's home turf of San Antonia, Texas, against tech heavies such as Google..."

And some people say "media whore" is too inflammatory.

edited because crap like this really irritates me and I made a mistake...
