Editor & Publisher on Bush being unhappy with Colbert. . .
. . .like I said in another post the fact that the MSM is not giving this a lot of coverage should not alarm. Colbert body slammed Bush last night and more importantly Bush knows it!

-snip-
Those seated near Bush told E&P's Joe Strupp, who was elsewhere in the room, that Bush quickly turned from an amused guest to an obviously offended target as Colbert’s comments brought up his low approval ratings and problems in Iraq.

Several veterans of past dinners, who requested anonymity, said the presentation was more directed at attacking the president than in the past. Several said previous hosts, like Jay Leno, equally slammed both the White House and the press corps.

“This was anti-Bush,” said one attendee. “Usually they go back and forth between us and him.” Another noted that Bush quickly turned unhappy, and left the dais shortly after while most seated near him, including Colbert and Snow, glad-handed the crowd. “You could see he stopped smiling about halfway through Colbert,” he reported.
-snip-

Strupp, in the crowd during the Colbert routine, had observed that quite a few sitting near him looked a little uncomfortable at times, perhaps feeling the material was a little too biting--or too much speaking "truthiness" to power.

Say what you want, but Colbert RUINED Bush's night. There are probably people tip toeing around the White House today because of that and what do you think the person who gave Colbert access to the White House to tape his segment is thinking.

Kudos to brother Colbert for this one.

24. They stopped putting the camera on Bush
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 01:46 PM by DoYouEverWonder
when he started getting upset. As long as he was laughing they would show him. That meant that for a least half of Colbert's routine they couldn't put the camera on Bush because he kept getting more and more pissed. Pickles was equally has pissy.

3. but he can dish it out, can't he?
When he's calling people nicknames and making fun of people, that's okay. What a poor sport. The fact is it cut too close to the truth for comfort--and shows us that the prez is not as sure of himself as he pretends.

7. He didn't
The sensors attached to his back gave him some nasty little shocks so that he could pretend to have a human affect.

That fucker ain't human, we all know that.

He probably just wet himself and had to get the hell home because it was so far past his 9 pm bedtime.

that he's so psychotropically drugged all the time, he's essentially in chains?

I do. I've seen that kind of fleeting and artificial affect on patients in the really bad parts of state hospitals. The kind you know are never going to get out again...........

8. No, I doubt he did
The fucker is so beyond human recognition and emotion, he probably just thought Colbert was dumb.

And, given how Colbert's brilliance is being ignored by the regular media, I'd say they've still got their lips firmly planted around Fuckface's root, assuring themselves that Colbert didn't do it to them, too.

Just when I think I cannot possibly loathe them all any more ......................

10. It is only funny when bu$h makes jokes about bu$h?
The media is all over the bu$h double skit that bu$h took part in and playing it as funny, which it is not.
When stupid people make fun of themselves they make themselves look that much more stupid.

11. Now maybe Stewart and Colbert know how Dem senators and congresspeople
feel when they spend years speaking out and the corporate media turns the volume down on them or ignores their charges completely.

Really - is this much different than what media has been doing to the left since 1997?

This is the power of the media to choose the news, to decide when and how to shield Bush from negative publicity. Sins of omission can be just as bad as sins of commission.

Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 01:50 PM by blm
If Colbert's blistering of Bush to his face doesn't get reported even when in front of the entire press corps, does it mean it didn't happen?

How many times during the debates did Kerry clock Bush on every issue, and though they all heard it, few actually reported the specifics and this was a PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE, fer chrissakes.

Media has been in fullblown Pritect the Bushboy mode since 1999 - they are nowhere near done with that role.

13. It was Bush's nightmare, I bet
You know how much Bush hides from the truth.

His hand-picked crowds...the way he doesn't want to read papers, doesn't want to hear "bad news"...the way he drives out of his way to avoiding seeing protesters.

And then he was forced to sit there onstage in front of all those despicable journalists, cameras rolling and take it.

14. Backwashers on the Cables not even
mentioning Colbert on any networks. Plenty of side by sides with the two "presidents" are repeated. They especially seemed to be liking the end and are repeating adnosium "support troupes" blah blah "god bless America" blah blah blah.... Me thinks the big kabosh is in, NO COLBERT. No suprise there.

Me thinks KO lead story should be "backwash" truethy in case any one would like to suggest that.

20. Colbert needs to be bolder. Will Rogers, not My Mother the Car.
He could ultimately be the end of the Right-wing dominant media, because if there is one thing they can't stand, it's ridicule. Think about it. Limbaugh, Hannity, that new idiot on CNN, Ingraham, Malkin - they drip with sarcasm, but cannot handle humor. At all. Jon Stewart is still enjoyable, but hardly cutting edge. He has gotten lazy, frankly. This is a turning point for Colbert - advance, and be the Will Rogers of your time, or retreat, and be a nothing, like My Mother the Car. We can't allow them to beat him down.

29. And this quote:
Addressing the reporters, he said, "Let's review the rules. Here's how it works. The president makes decisions, he’s the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Put them through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know--fiction."

For you younger folks: The correspondents dinner is supposed to be a humorous take on the current President and the press. The difference is that Colbert used sharper wit than most of the speakers in previous years.
