White House knew there were no WMD: CIA

The CIA had evidence Iraq possessed no weapons of mass destruction six months before the 2003 US-led invasion but was ignored by a White House intent on ousting Saddam Hussein, a former senior CIA official said, according
to CBS.

The source "told us that there were no active weapons of mass destruction programs," Drumheller said in a CBS interview to be aired on Sunday on the US network's 60 Minutes.

"The (White House) group that was dealing with preparation for the Iraq war came back and said they were no longer interested," he was quoted as saying in interview excerpts released by CBS on Friday.

"We said: 'Well, what about the intel?' And they said: 'Well, this isn't about intel anymore. This is about regime change'," added Drumheller, whose CIA operation was assigned the task of debriefing the Iraqi official.

1. Support the Illinois effort!!!!
Folks this can happen but it won't happen without grassroots support. We need to organize we need to calle-mail legislators, we need to involve as many people as possible. Speaker Madigan is not going to be in any rush to call this bill and we have to make sure he calls it with enough time for it to make it to the Senate and who knows how Senate President Jones feels. The legislature was supposed to adjourn on April 6 (they have until May 31 before its considered overtime) so we may only have a week to work. If nothing happens in the next week or two (before session ends) it may get tabled until Veto session which is in November/December. We need DUers to step up this weekend. . .reach out to other activists and make this thing happen.

1st step call or e-mail you state rep and state senator by Monday. Encourage your friends and family to do so as well! IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN ILLINOIS CALL FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHO DO!!! Hit other boards, blogs and progressive activists. The establishment (and I am part of it, an insider who will do what he can) will not do anything without OVERWHELMING support from the people.

2nd target legislators who you think may support this resolution and list them on the DU. I have a GUT feeling leadership (Madigan/Jones) is going to be luke warm at best and Rod has no say so in this effort, so it will REQUIRE major grassroots efforts!

Look them up here!

2. Link
www.truthuncovered.com

In his documentary feature, UNCOVERED: The War on Iraq, filmmaker Robert Greenwald chronicles the Bush Administration's determined quest to invade Iraq following the events of September 11, 2001. The film deconstructs the administration's case for war through interviews with U.S intelligence and defense officials, foreign service experts, and U.N. weapons inspectors -- including a former CIA director, a former ambassador to Saudi Arabia and even President Bush's Secretary of the Army. Their analyses and conclusions are sobering, and often disturbing, regardless of one's political affiliations.

Since this film was first released in November 2003 via thousands of house parties organized by MoveOn.org, the issues addressed have become well known, and the arguments made by the experts in the film have been proven. Most recently, by the Downing Street Memos.

This is an important film documenting exactly how the Bush administration hoodwinked the American people into supporting an unnecessary war. A war that has claimed tens of thousands of lives, and continues today.

Read why the director, Robert Greenwald, decided to make this film. See the timeline of the Bush Administration's justification for war, images and excerpts from the film, or the complete transcript (pdf).
