Kerry campaign playing Toby Keith song at events.
Ewwwww!

How do you like Kerry now?

Do country singers watch C-Span? If superstar Toby Keith caught any while cruising in his tour bus this weekend, he was probably steamed. During the broadcast of a rally for Sen. John Kerry in Oklahoma City on Saturday, Keith's mega-hit, "How Do You Like Me Now" could be heard blaring out of the speakers during Kerry's exit from the stage. Yep, the liberal senator from Massachusetts, the home of folkies like James Taylor, was pumping up the crowd with a redneck anthem from a proud, pro-war Republican.

1. I think it's hilarious that Kerry is co opting the song...
of that knee jerk no-talent. Irony.

Sometimes I wonder why people think hit-pieces like this will make us dislike someone.

2. It's an effective way to show his support for the crusade, and resonate

with conservative white males who are a little pissed because they don't feel bush has done all he can to crack down on anti-American sentiment and root out sleeper cells right here in their back yard.

He's playing a song at his rally, not stepping through the looking glass.
Being a politican means not being above a little harmless pandering.

17. Deans supporters
Are paying for this. DFA is not sponsoring the car. Its an individual effort.

5. Rank it up there with Botox
So what if Kerry's music taste for this particular swing is bad? So what if the singer is a Republican? Stravinsky and Dali were hardcore rightists. If one of the candidates expressed their culture through appreciation for those masters, should we chastise them for supporting the right-wing?

6. Sheesh, I hope Kerry didn't approve the use of this song
It is a vindictive, somewhat misogynist rant by a guy against a girl who wouldn't date him in high school. He's gloating about her unhappy life and flaunting his success.

He never comes home
And you're always alone
And your kids hear you cryin down the hall
Alarm clock starts ringin'
Who could that be singin'
It's me baby, with your wake up call!

How do you like me now?
How do you like me now,
Now that I'm on my way?
Do you still think I'm crazy
Standin' here today?
I couldn't make you love me
But I always dreamed about living in your radio
How do you like me now?

7. It's a CW "Sk8r Boi"
I think Toby Keith is an ignoramus, too, but this isn't exactly unusual stuff for a song.

The Dixie Chicks' Goodbye Earl is similar.

Men hate women; women hate men. That's what really sells!

As for Kerry using TK's music -- well, if it tweaks the Conservatives, a few spins of the turntable won't hurt a bit.

8. Toby Keith is the one who said bush is smarter than he (Toby) is
How dumb do you have to be to make a statement like that?

Toby joined the chorus of "I hate the Dixie Chicks for speaking their minds." If Kerry picked that song, it reveals a lot about him. Nothing like watching someone's true colors come out.

10. My wife and I went to the Kerry rally in OKC
and we both thought it was rather odd that Toby Keith's music was playing in the background. I wasn't sure if this was just for the Oklahoma event since Keith is from OKC or if it's happening at all of his rallies. Regardless, it's not the best choice of music.

18. Doees that make Toby Keith a friend of Dems or something?
Someone to look up to? Emulate? Promote at Demo political events?

I think I'm confused.
