Matthews...."A Power Tool?" Interesting stuff here:
Power Tool

by digby

I think we all know that Chris Matthews is a strange fellow. And he often sounds a little bit less than with it. But this really takes the cake. He seems to think that he's figured out the secret GOP strategy for the fall:

MATTHEWS: ...I've been thinking now for a couple of days now at least that what the Democrats are going to face this fall, what the Republicans are probably going to throw at them is, "You think we're bad, we got a guy named Safavian you never heard of and we got this guy DeLay. He's gone now. And we're no day at the beach, but look what they've got. They've got a bunch of crazy guys who are going to try to lynch the president. They are going to try to censure him, but ideally they are going to try to impeach him. They are going to use the subpoena power to go crazy. Don't let John Conyers of Michigan" --

Doesn't it sound like he believes that he came up with this himself? And yet: (Straight from the Repugs)

"Impeachment, coming your way if there are changes in who controls the House eight months from now," Paul Weyrich, a veteran conservative organizer, declared last month in an e-mail newsletter.

The threat of impeachment, Mr. Weyrich suggested, was one of the only factors that could inspire the Republican Party's demoralized base to go to the polls. With "impeachment on the horizon," he wrote, "maybe, just maybe, conservatives would not stay at home after all."

look at all the scary weirdos (even some black folks!!!) who will be committee chairs in congress if you vote for the Democrats!! yikes!!

some joe blow is pennsylvnia isn't gonna make his vote for congressman based on who the chairman of the judiciary committee will be.

they are trying to nationalize local elections and that has rarely happened. in fact, it may be in the best interests of the DEmocrats to try to nationalize this election.

5. The gop can depend on Chris
Cute how he makes it sound like he just puzzled this out all by himself :eyes:

Ya know, I'm not sure the public doesn't expect Congress to do something when the exec is so corrupted. Won't be just as much anger against those who do nothing as against those who pledge investigations and accountability? Especially as the cover-ups and the crimes continue to unfold daily on front pages.

6. It could backfire...but if the Repug RW Fundie Base get's in a dither that

their new messiah could go down they will turn out at the polls. Whereas many mainstream Repugs, Dems and Independents could be so disgusted they stay home.

I think that's one reason Dems don't push the Verified Paper Ballot initiatives. They are afraid of causing fear about the voting machines.

So, this could also backfire on us. Digby has written several pieces on the Right Wing getting their vote out at the polls through the use of their churches. And, if the machines are hacked they will be hacked in Dem districts while the RW votes will be counted.... We've seen this before.

So, I hope this all backfires and even the far Right Wing is so disgusted with him by November...but we probably need to deal with this in some way.

I don't trust Biden or Emmanual or the Bob Shrum's to do it. I hope Dean will get after it...

9. paul weyrich is more dangerous than any elected republican.
the head of the republican serpent isn't elected, and while paul weyrich may not be the head he is certainly one of the chambers of the heart.

11. More fearmongering to scare the uninformed masses in voting
for the GOP!

Matthews likes to play the power game......and evidently, it has a tendency to work. That's why we need to stop watching and force his ass off of the TeeVee!
