George Allen's Town Hall Mtg- He's horrible! Why did they vote for him?
The first question is from a 16 yr old student-

“I’ve had several letters in the past few weeks threatening my life because I am an openly gay person in the area,” he said. “There is no hate crime bill that covers sexual orientation, and you said you would not support this legislation, why?”

On the issue of sexual orientation, said Allen, “I don’t care to make it a civil right. I don’t care to raise it to that status.”

The Senator emphasized that he does not condone violent crimes against anyone, but that he cannot support legislation that would take away a person’s religious freedom. For example, during a “gay pride” parade in Philadelphia, people were arrested for reciting Bible verses, said Allen.
<snip>
....she has been without a job since last year - she worked at Wal-Mart - because of high blood pressure and the inability to find full time work with health benefits. Her husband lost his job as a cabinetmaker in Manassas last month, she said, leaving Carroll desperate for assurances of medical coverage if something should happen.

“Our country pays to make democracy in Iraq and to bring aid to Africa, but does not care for the people of this country,” she said. “If I have to go into the hospital with stroke, I don’t know how to cover the expenses. I don’t want to lose my house.”

On the spot, Allen linked Carroll with local reps from the Department of Social Services, but also encouraged “health savings accounts” in which “people own their own insurance.”

and he is an absolute idiot. I am gay and his utter disregard for our lives is like a spit of acid in my face. I hope Jim Webb kicks his ass in november!

2. Health savings accouts?
I'm not sure how a couple who are both out of work would have any cash to contribute to a health savings account, to say nothing about the length of time (years) one must contribute for the account togrow enough to cover even a relatively small medical emergency. Rather unrealistic suggestion on the part of Allen.

5. My initial thought is, how do we honestly know that they did get voted in?
These individuals who are so unethical being in office, I would imagine are unethical in how they get INTO office.

8. and he's a liar
The "arrested for saying Bible verses" story it total BS. I'll have to Google it, but I think the counter-demonstrators did a LOT more than just read the Bible.

9. He's an idiot who won because of his last name - sad commentary
for us in VA. Your Dad was a Washington Redskin coach so that automatically makes you eligible for Governor and Senator. He hurt VA as a Governor and is a danger in the US Senate. Dumb as dirt, plays to the bigots and fearful in central and Southern VA.

I've said for years that Northern VA should become our own state. The rest of the Commonwealth sucks our tax dollars, votes against anything and everything we care about and laughs at us while they get away with it. The rest of VA is like living in the deep South.

We in Northern VA will work VERY hard to make sure he is no longer our Senator. The country needs to work very hard to make sure he never becomes President. He'll make Bush look like he had a shred of intelligence!

He is dumb as rocks...and slid by on the Clinton prosperity...
He got elected on his name (well his dad's actually). Was governor at the height of the Clinton economic boom. He could hid out in his shed for four years and things would have been just as good...and then beat a weakened Chuck Robb for his senate seat

The guy is really lacking in smarts and is a terrible debater. He makes W look like a Rhodes scholar!!
