Rising Star to Deliever Democratic Response
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 05:42 PM by nickshepDEM
New thread to balance out the bullshit Kaine-bashing threads...

``I want to contrast what I consider to be an administration that is super-partisan and not really able to deliver results with a different model, a better way, which is what we've been doing in Virginia and other states,'' Kaine said, previewing his speech tonight in an interview with the Associated Press.

``Results matter. Planning matters. Management matters, and you can make much more progress if you do it in a bipartisan way,'' he said.
<snip>

``I think it's all about talking to people about the issues that really matter to them, which is what successful governors tend to do. They became successful in campaigns because they talk about real basic things and don't get off on insider issues and purely social causes -- the strength of the economy, the power of education, health care needs and health care solutions,'' Kaine said.
<snip>

``Tim Kaine is a wonderful fresh face who speaks from the heart about his values,'' said Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean.

2. Homophobe is a pretty harsh word. An individuals stance on one issue
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 05:46 PM by nickshepDEM
should NOT be a litmus test for the democratic party.

16. What would we call a politician
who supported an amendment to ban interracial marriage, ban civil unions for interracial couples, and forbid said couples from privately contracting for such things as powers of attorneys and wills? I would hope the word racist would come to mind. Replace interracial with same sex and that is what Kaine is doing. What word other than homophobe should I use?

5. The LA mayor is giving the spanish language response
http://www.dailynews.com/news/ci_3445662

...Tapped to deliver part of the Democratic response to President George W. Bush's State of the Union speech next Tuesday, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says he hopes to deliver a message of hope to the nation.
"This is a great honor - I am the first local official to give a response like this in Spanish," Villaraigosa said Friday. "And, I agreed to it on two conditions. First, that I would have full editorial control and, secondly, that I would give a message of hope."

The mayor is still developing his response, which will be taped sometime Tuesday at a Los Angeles location yet to be determined, aides said.

"I do not expect to be critical of the president," Villaraigosa said. "Instead, I want to talk about the hope and opportunity this country has to offer." .......

6. I like Villaraigosa, he's refreshing.
I enjoyed watching him in the LA Mayoral debates several months ago.

12. He speaks Spanish with a Spanglish accent!
But his command is perfect, far better than the "taco y cerveza, por favor" stylings of the Monkey.

I'm hoping for a good speech out of him tonight.
