Good, now it's time to move on

I'm glad the Alito thing is finished, now it is time to move on! I get sick of one topic dominating Du.

Yea, I know some of you think it's the end of the United States now that he got confirmed, or the end of all humankind as we know but WHATEVER.

Guess what, things can change in the future, imagine that.

1. Things always change. America has been through much much
worse, and survived to see another day.

2. Yep.. Alito was a done deal as soon as Bush nominated him
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 02:13 AM by SoCalDem
It royally sucks, but there was NO way he would be defeated, since the republicans have the numbers and they work in lockstep. They fact that they all still back *² even though they know he broke the law and is spying on them, told me all I needed to know. Money talks..He's got it..they need it.

The fight we never should have let go of is the only one that really matters.. election problems and bogus voting machines..

My guess is that probably at least 10-15 people in office in DC right now did not even win their elections..Those people may constitute the "majority" that we are always knocking heads with. Without them in office, Dems would be chairing committees and setting agendas..

That's the brass ring...and now we are again a few months away from another "oh, too bad..so close, try harder next time" election, and we have gotten NO traction on this issue.

3. That's it, SoCal,
until we take back and secure the election system, the rest is an exercise in futility, IMHO. SG

4. Time to move on to the next surrender.
That's the spirit.

Yeah, things can change. There's a good chance that Bush will appoint two more justices, this time replacing some of the liberals. He could easily get a chance to replace Justice Ginsburg and Justice Stephens. Unlike his Republican predecessors, there is probably no chance that he will appoint somebody moderate or reasonable as a replacement.

Yes, things can change in the future. We could end up with a court that's packed with Scalia/Alito types and be stuck with it for the next thirty years. God only knows what kind of a country we would end up with as a result.

Yes, things can change in the future, imagine that.

5. The Golden Rule...Win Elections, Make The Rules
This thing will now blow over, but I hope the sting some are feeling stays for a long time...mad enough to get them from typing to action...to their local Democratic party office to see what they can do to prevent future Alitos.

Too many here expected to move mountains in minutes. To turn 20 years worth of Right wing onslaught and a decade of their control of the legislative and force change overnight. There's angst and bloodletting at Democrats who surely would have acted otherwise had there been more Democrats or a Democratic majority. This is what stopped Bork.

Yes, there are some Democrats that aren't my cup of tea and there will come a time where they will be held accountable, but I don't care how "DINO" someone is, they can't and aren't as bad as the best Repugnican. The best way to put the pressure on these people is from strength, not weakness...and, yes, change can happen...but it's gonna take a lot of work, a lot of accomodation and a far more organized effort than what I'm seeing right now.

Peace...

6. The party has been over since the dlc in 1992
we just didn't know because "we had the white house"! Now Clinton is gone, and the Dems will only be able to run gop / dlc candidates from here on it. There is still a fight. We can pick the lesser of two evils...
